GH Map Inconsitency Question

In '82 Doug Niles wrote one of that era's best adventures, Against the Cult of the Reptile God, and placed it in the town of Orlane on the northern border of The Gran March and the southern border of Bissel, just off a trail through The Dim Forest and a bit into the Rushmoors. A portion of Gygax's original GH map shows it clearly in the adventure; Orlane is just inside the Rushmoors below The Dim Forest.

In the late 90s, Lisa Stevens, Erik Mona and a couple others designed a "super" map that would eventually be published in Dungeon issues 117-120. In that map, Orlane is not in the Rushmores at all but is a few miles west, closer to Hochoch.

I am concetrating on this area for a Campaign I've been working on for a few months and will probably place Orlane, a key town, back where Gygax originally placed it -- but I'm concerned there was likely a really good reason for Stevens, Mona, et.al. to have changed it.

What was that reason? Why was Orlane moved? Once I see their logic I may decide to stick with their choice.

Incidentally, the LGG map does not place Orlane at all.

Does anyone know why it would have been moved? Can anyone think of the good reason? Can we twist either Lisa or Erik's arm to explain?

Wow- you're right! It did get moved.

I'd forgotten about Against the Cult of the Reptile God and little Orlane. You've got me looking at some of the other notable locales on my Paizo poster-map.

I'd be interested in understanding if it was a decision or if something was overlooked as well. Hence the bump.

Keep us posted about your campaign, Ray!

Well, it's just a Campaign idea and some notes right now -- the Campaign I'm currently in is also in GH, though -- you can read about it in the Campaign Journal titled The Wizard of Witchfire Mt: A Sandbox Campaign in the Sterich March.

But as far as this Orlane / Horned Society (if you've followed my other posts) Campaign concept, I have this funny feeling that once my subscription ordered Inner Sea Guide arrives next week I'm gonna temporarily forget about GH research and just read that for a while.

But if (when) I do get to another Campaign I'll start a Thread in the Campaign Journals Forum like I always (usually) (no wait, "sometimes") do.
