Those who care would probably be happy to note that Kawamori keeps his promise and resolves the love triangle in the sequel.
Plot has gone completely off the rails from the TV series. Amusingly enough, there is a small cameo from a previous Macross.
As a fan, I am not happy with the final outcome. It provides closure and it's a well written ending that ties up most of the loose knots, but I'm not happy.
Very entertained and satisfied with the outcome, but not happy.
Ranka closes with the hopeful musing that Alto will come back some day and then maybe Sheryl will regain consciousness.
The bleak ending hints that the two are still somehow linked through the fold quartz resonance.
The ending kept everyone glued in their seats until the credits rolled. There were exclamations of shock at the lack of a post-credit trailer.
Apparently ol' Shoji Kawamori went for the arthouse ending.

I have been under the rocks know as work and then law school. I had also been watching other anime that I had never seen before such as Dirty Pair, Slayers, Martian Successor Nadesico, and Mabaraho.
Maburaho is great cheesecake. Dirty Pair is older than..well, dirt, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great series. Nadesco turned me off when they went from a parody of the super robot genre to a mockery of it, and Slayers is, for better or worse, a classic.

I was not aware anything new had been made since Macross Zero. Can you share some more details?
Remember THIS scene? Look at the items on the table. Remember those items.
This will be testable.
I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!
And so the long wait begins.
Itsuwari no Utahime (The False Songstress), took almost a year to hit Blue-Ray.

It's not really H.G.'s fault here... (However, them "Cease and Desist"ing MechWarrior 5 was unforgivable, so having more hate heaped in their direction is always acceptable.)
It's more the really weird way Japanese film's tend to 'premiere'. It's like this massive rolling roadshow which slowly trundles from one region to the next with each region getting it's own "Gala" performance. By the time they're done with the tour, sometimes up to six months have passed.

I watched the first episode of Macross Victory yesterday and I have two comments. First, I am glad it was subbed because I was watching it in class and dubbed would have been awkward. :) Second, there are a lot of elements that took me back to the very first episode of the very first Macross. I am hoping that the nostalgia factor continues because that was one of the things that has kept me coming back to Macross and one of the things that almost turned me off when I watched Macross II. Macross II did not make me feel like I was watching the same universe as Macross, but so far this does.

By "Victory", I hope you mean "Frontier". :-P
As for nostalgia factor, Frontier was directed by the "Hory Froating Head" himself (Shoji Kawamori), something lacking in Macross II (which has incidentally been banished to the status of a 'fictional movie' within the series continuity).
Trust me. When TVTropes described Macross Frontier as continuity porn, they weren't kidding.

God, I hate tv tropes.
But yeah, dont' say "Macross Victory" too loud, it may start giving HG some ideas.
Hmm...that gives me an idea for a new flavor of FHDM-brand Haterade(tm)... Harmony Gold Grape...hmm...

I don't think that's really possible anyhow. I know Tatsunko has authorship rights, but Big West by extension has the right to the mechanical and character designs, which means any subsequent project by HG will essentially have to reinvent the wheel as far as the artwork style is concerned.
As a BattleTech fan, I consider turnabout fair play.

I have very little love left for Harmony Gold. First they screwed me over with the Sentinals, and now they have not delivered the Shadow Chronicles as promised. I mean, at least George Lucas gave us The Clone Wars even if he hasn't delivered the live action tv show.
For a long time, I had no idea what Harmony Gold produced (besides lawsuits).
What would otherwise be apathy for Harmony Gold has turned to hate for the simple reason that I cannot acquire Macross products outside Japan without racking up massive shipping charges. Messing with the contents of my wallet is not cool.
Anyway. Current excuse for the Shadow Chronicles is that they're waiting to see what Warner Brothers does with the movie rights. Grapevine chatter was that they never expected Big West to churn out Macross Frontier at the same time.

The main things I noticed Harmony Gold trying to do was the re-release of the dvds and for the selling of more of the veritech toys, but that seemed to be tied in with the nostalgia wave and also trying to cash on the veritech craze due to the wave of masterpiece veritechs that were released in Japan (my friend bought more than 2 dozen from Japan, only about 130+ dollars a piece... what a crazy guy).
