Classics Revisted Adventure Path

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Perhaps that's not the best name for this idea. The "Tired Tropes Redeemed" Adventure Path might be more accurate. I was wondering if Paizo was up to the challenge of violating the old Dungeon Magazine submission guidelines and design an adventure path inclusive of the following elements:

  • Dragon holding a princess for ransom
  • courtly intrigues featuring a Lord and/or Lady Macbeth, Richard III, or Claudius type character scheming for the throne
  • knightly tournaments to determine the best to quest for the weapon necessary to kill the dragon / rescue the princess
  • evil witches and/or wizards in league with the schemers or dragon
  • border tensions with neighboring monarchy (and Gilder to frame for it all)
  • other traditional fairy tale and medieval tropes

Are any Paizo fans interested in seeing their favorite gaming company breathe new life into these old tales?

Having been impressed with the spin Paizo has put on their other Classics Revisited work, I think this idea has merit. It could be a lot of fun if it was familiar ... but just a bit different.

I think this could be lots of fun

These would actually be pretty good for introductory games and could be a nice line of adventures for the intro box/system that is in the works. I know that I would love to have some of these to teach my 6 y.o. son to play.

ap spoilers:
looking at those, there are several that have been somewhat done -border tensions fits War of the River Kings - sure one of the Borders is yours...

Same module has a tourney.

Mother of Fies has the backlash from an evil witch (Hag) allying with schemers.

As for a wide open other at the bottom, i'm sure most of the different bits can be covered - haunted castle for example?

Several of those suggestions also reminded me of Curse of the Crimson Throne.

I don't think something this "experimental" would work as an adventure path on its own though. Might make some fun modules based on the tropes though, or a trope appear in an adventure path now and again, such as the ones that remind me of Curse of the Crimson Throne.

I always liked the Heroes of Horror suggestion for handling dragons though. They don't want the princess to eat her, they want the princess to breed with her because only royals are worthy of bearing half-dragon children. (Or full dragon children, if you're going that way with your campaign.)
