So our Ronin lost her mount in battle, being as there are apparently no local horses, what else can count as a mount for a Ronin? Are horses it or can we use anything a Druid can as long as it's a 'mount'?
Ronin on a triceratops? Large velociraptor? Pterasaur?
What would the ronin need to do to get a new mount, aside from buying a new horse in civilization?
The druid/ ranger have mystic ways with animals, the cav/sam doesn't really. So how do we go about it, and whats kosher for him to ride?

As written mounts other than horses are mostly out of the question, but I don't think it would unbalance the game if you allowed other druid companions suitable as mounts.
Checking the srd I can't find any animal companion larger than medium except camel, horse and dragonne so your cavalier should be at least 7th level if he wants anything more exotic though.

If you're DMing, just have the PCs' faction (or another friendly faction) have horses available at their encampment to sell/trade. The plot assumes the PCs have access to standard items (even magic items) from their expedition encampment.

If you're GMing, you could always have another expedition show up (maybe the Aspis Consortium or Pathfinders discover the city on their own, or the Red Mantis arrive looking for the lost temple of Achaekek). Depending on how the PCs react to them, they could be potential allies...or rivals.

I would allow non-horse as mounts. As long as they can ride the animal. They will have to train it, which will take time.
yes see thats what i was thinking. The entry in samurai says he can take a new mount after a week of mourning. It would take longer than that to train a wild horse.
So basically, in reality, without alot of game time, a samurai is stuck with 'buying' a new horse or receiving one trained already? yes?

I was traveling yesterday therefore I could not reply as I wanted to post.
The APG has the following in Cavaliers too:
The GM might approve other animals as suitable mounts.
Should a cavalier’s mount die, the cavalier may find another mount to serve him after 1 week of mourning.
This new mount does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the cavalier gains a level.
So the character has to go a week of mourning, then can pick another mount. The new pount could be anything the GM approved like triceratops, large velociraptor or even a lion. The new mount must wait until the character level before getting the special abilities, but I would like the character to start training the new mount using his Handle Animal skill.

Yesss, i was just reading ahead and saw dire tigers. A dire tiger mount would be cool, ronin on a dire tiger, can you dig it?
