OK..I bought Lords of Chaos for this specific reason...I need a Demon Lord to replace Graz'zt. He is one of my 2 favorites, Orcus being #1, and want to do him justice in the capture of Adi. I like Shax, but the pure, violent murder aspect doesn't fit. I thought about changing him to Orcus, but that doesn't fit because he is not clever enough.
I would love to put Iggwilv in there too, but don't think it would work.
I guess Graz'zt must be intellectual property. I noticed a few missing. Was that done specifically because of rights, or is Demogorgon not there because of ST?
I love the Graz'zt write up in Lords of the Abyss. That and Tyrants of the 9 Hells were probably my 2 favorite 3.5 books. Have the signed copy from Mr. Jacobs and Mona..awesome...
Anyhow, any ideas?

Patrick

Iggwilv is a plane-traveling, world-hopping bad-ass wizard. She can certainly show up on Golarion, but like Graz'zt, she's the intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast, so we can't and won't be mentioning either of them by name in print.
Some of the demon lords from D&D are based on mythology; that's why we can talk about Pazuzu, Lamashtu, and Baphomet. Some of the demon lords are part of the OGL, thanks to being in the Tome of Horrors; that's why we can talk about Jubilex, and why we can talk about Kostchtchie and Orcus as demon lords in the way folks are used to. (Fraz-Urb'luu's in the Tome of Horrors as well, but he's SO tied to Greyhawk canon that we chose not to really involve him in Golarion's cast of demons). Some, like Demogorgon, are from mythology, but their specific incarnation in the game is NOT supported by the OGL, and thus we generally only mention them by name rarely.
And some, like Graz'zt, aren't part of the OGL and were made up whole-cloth by Gary Gygax, and therefore are 100% product identity of Wizards of the Coast.
In any event, the best "replacement" for Graz'zt in Golarion is either Shax or Socothbenoth. In print, we'll be using Socothbenoth for most of our Graz'zt type plots as they're needed.
