New Racial Trait Feat

Homebrew and House Rules

Grand Lodge

So as I sit here looking through my APG looking to roll a new character, all the new racial traits just look amazing and sometimes its hard to give up an old favorite for something that sounds like fun to try. So I want to cheat and have them both, lol!

So here is an feat I came up with to try to have my cake and eat it too.

Racial Paragon
You are a prime example of your race.
Prerequisites: 13+ in your races favored attributes, 10+ in your races non-favored attributes, 1 skill rank in a favored racial skill.
Benefit: You may select 2 additional racial traits as bonus traits without replacing any previously selected traits.

So for example an Elf would need at least a 13 Dex, 13 Int, 10 Con, and at least 1 skill rank in Spellcraft or Perception.

A human on the other hand would require a 13 in whatever attributes was assigned the +2 bonus, and I would say a 10 is required in all other attributes. As for the human skill rank, I have no idea, but some feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks all!

Some racial traits are not worth a feat, and some are worth a whole feat alone. I don't think this is really balanced as written. If you use a 15 point buy, then it's not difficult to pull these stats off though it might gimp the character a little bit. Otherwise, this could make already above average characters even better.

This is unfair to human characters. An elf could buy an attribute score of 8 somewhere to put points into Con, countering the penalty. Humans don't have that option.

Your concept is sound, but the feat itself isn't. Just trade a feat for a trait, one for one.

What racial traits are we talking about here? The trait system traits is what I thought at first.

Very good points I didn't think of Fog. This was just an idea I had bouncing around to see if it was do-able. I would like to work on this a bit more and see if there isn't a way to pull something like this off.

@ Abraham: The traits I'm talking about are like Dwarf's Stonecunning, Halfling's Luck, Elf's Elven Magic, ect.
Trying to find a way to be able to select additional racial traits from the APG without giving up the base traits.

I just want to see if there is a balance somewhere.

EDIT: Ninja'd

The replacement racial features in the APG. Honestly, the terminology used in the ruleset isn't optimal, but yeah...

I think we're talking about stuff like "Eye for Talent" for humans and "Craven" for halflings and such. ...I think... o-o;

In that case I agree with foghammer. I really don't see those as a good choice of options to give around.
