A girallon has been successfully grappled by a polar bear. How many attacks does the girallon get on its turn and how does it make them (regular attack, grapple check, etc.) On its turn, how many attacks does the polar bear get on its turn and how does it make them?
My take on it based on the 3.5 SRD:
Girallon:
Doing a Full Attack action the girallon gets 1 claw so while he is grappled he can:
Attack Your Opponent (in this case using a natural weapon)
- 1 claw attack at +8 (-4 because of grappling)
-OR-
Damage Your Opponent (nonlethal)
He gets 1 attempt at this since he is using natural weapons he does not get multiple attacks from having a high base attack.
- Opposed grapple check at +17 (nonlethal damage 1d4 +6)
-OR-
Damage Your Opponent (lethal)
He gets 1 attempt at this since he is using natural weapons he does not get multiple attacks from having a high base attack.
- Opposed grapple check at +13 (damage 1d4 +6)
Polar Bear:
Doing a Full Attack action the Polar Bear gets 1 claw so while he is grappled he can:
Attack Your Opponent (in this case using a natural weapon)
He gets 1 attack
- 1 claw attacks at +9 (-4 because of grappling)
-OR-
Damage Your Opponent (nonlethal)
He gets 1 attempt at this since he is using natural weapons he does not get multiple attacks from having a high base attack.
- Opposed grapple check at +18 (nonlethal damage 1d4 +8)
-OR-
Damage Your Opponent (lethal)
He gets 1 attempt at this since he is using natural weapons he does not get multiple attacks from having a high base attack.
- Opposed grapple check at +14 (damage 1d4 +8)
The above assumes neither opponent is trying to move, trying to pin, trying to break the grapple. They are both just staying put and goring or choking each other.
Also I am using the primary natural attack for each monster (the first one listed in the SRD). If you wanted you could say the opponents choose to bite instead and just replace the stats for the bite attack instead of the claw attack but some feel the opponent MUST use the primary natural attack when only getting one attack.
