I am new gm/coordinator who has successfully talked a local store into hosting my events. the owner nicely asked if Paizo offered any type of support to the stores regularly hosting events. and i said i would ask here.

so consider it asked. also who is the regional coordinator for Idaho?

Have the store owner contact hyrum.savage@paizo.com I believe the store can get a few mods for free typically.

Not every state has a Venture-Captain or was announced as a region that might get one, and Idaho was not on the list before. I do have a pretty little map that shows the regions and the regions that have been filled. Looks like your closest Venture-Captain would be in Seattle or Denver. If you were looking for someone to ask questions of though, anyone could help out as well as many helpful messageboard regulars :)

thanks thats a help. I plan to deluge the boards with queries over the next couple of weeks as i get ready for my first event on February 12th. running the level one scenario that intros the society. Master of the fallen fortress. I am planning on getting enough players to run two tables or more bi weekly. there are plenty of players here looking for what the society provides. just no one has stepped up to run it here in Boise.

we also have a yearly Con I am looking at introducing the society at this year as well. that one I will be asking a lot of questions about as well because am sure running that size of event is totally different from a store event.

What/where's the store? I often visit Boise during school vacations (have relatives there) and maybe I could drop by for an event?

Magic dragon games on state street just west of Veterans Parkway on the north side. by the Smoke Inn. February 12 is first session. I am registering the events 2-3 weeks prior to each one so keep checking the listings.

Friendly tip: If you are publicly talking about an event for the 12th you should make sure the event is in the system for people to find. :)

ok event is registered on my events page, event #4764. I registered it Thursday night. But it is not showing on the search when I run a search for games in my area or on the calendar.... does it take a while for them to update those? If so, what is a good lead in time to make sure the event hits the calendar/search with enough time for people to plan ahead?

I think it should appear immediately. Do you need to checkbox a scenario to run before the event appears? I can't remember, just something that came to mind. Also make sure you've checked it as a public event and not a private one.

rechecked all the above. it is all correct. still not showing on calendar.

Yup, I typed in your Event number, and I'm able to view it. Everything checks out okay, you've entered it correctly. I'm able to view your event as a List, and I'm able to view it as a Calendar, but that's only your one event. When I try to do a search for it, I can't locate it either. Though my default map location is Melbourne, Australia - I change it to Boise Idaho USA, and I see events within 100 kms (or however far I set), but because your event is next month, once I click February, it resets my google map to Melbourne, Australia, so that could be why I'm not seeing it?

Or it could be ninjas.

I've raised this on the Regional Coordinator's board, so someone should be able to look into it when they're back in the office on Monday.

Cheers,
DarkWhite

Try entering coordinates for the event but leaving the country/state box blank.

That has worked for me before, as I have had the same problem as you.

thank you for the input. however it did not work that way either. I am betting its a glitch in how the search works. my default zip code and address enter automatically, however google maps shows Boston map as default. the thing that surprises me is the calendar shows events outside the search radius... so why is mine still not listed on the calendar?

I am thinking this will need to be answered by some techie type on Monday when they get in the office. my biggest concern is the one that started this discussion. I want the events listed for members to search and find :) even though i currently lack gm's to man more than one table (I got me, myself and I but sadly they can only do one table at a time!) I want as many experienced players there as possible. heck any experienced PFS member can gm the level one scenario I am running for those that want to play, master of the fallen fortress. But more importantly helping new players understand what the society is and how fun it will be to join and play.

Excuse the barely contained excitement... my inner child loves Pen and paper rpg's and since returning from the land of digital mayhem known as MMO's, I am just giddy with joy at being back where I belong.

So this thread is over 2 years old now. Has anything changed? I do like pathfinder society, but I'm looking at the way other organized play groups are supported in stores, and wondering why Paizo hasn't done more then a token gesture towards supporting play in stores.

On the other hand, I have players coming in from a convention with shiny new perks, and I wonder why an event that is held once a year get's such goodies, and a store that hosts games on a regular basis doesn't.

I'm pulling this part from your question because I'm curious what you're seeing. As a store owner who runs all kinds of organized play, here is what I know I can get:

WarMachine/Hordes - Various league and tournament kits which I have to purchase (somewhere between $20 and $75 depending on what you want).

Warhammer - As a stockist I get a small amount of annual credit ($300) that I can use to purchase (at full retail) various things like terrain and models to give away. I only get this credit if I maintain my purchasing levels. Average retail prices on most things GW hover around $50.

D&D Encounters - A package is sent to the store that includes the module to be run and promotional items like a poster and table talkers. There are also a few promotional "D&D Fortune Cards" to give out to players who achieve various things in the game. Players can earn as many as two cards over the course of 12 sessions.

D&D Lair Assault - Similar to Encounters, but designed as a one-shot that is very dangerous to characters. You get the promo card if you win.

D&D Living Forgotten Realms - Nothing.

Magic the Gathering - King of them all, admittedly. Promo cards for Friday Night Magic. Promo cards for leagues. Promo cards for pre-releases. Promo cards for release days. Promo cards for customer purchase incentives. Promo cards for their XBox/Steam/Playstation game players. Tournament kits for PTQs. This is a very long list, and is an incredible amount of free support that is available.

Shadowrun Missions - Nothing.

Savage Worlds - Nothing.

Star Wars LCG - Nothing. Yet. Plans are to introduce a kit that can be purchased. Details are scarce.

Star Wars X-Wing Game - Nothing. See the LCG above.

Heroclix - Tournament and league kits which include promotional figures and scenario maps, which must be purchased (around $50 for each kit, which is good for a couple events, usually).

I think that's everything I do in my store. I might have missed something, but don't believe so. Now, I also run PFS of course, and know I can get the following from Paizo:

- Chronicles with various boons.
- Hardcover rule books.
- Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes.
- Pathfinder Campaign setting books.
- Pathfinder Companion books.
- Pathfinder Tales novels.
- Promotional posters for PFS and for various new product lines.

The first six items have been sent to me in the past free of charge for in-store events like charity game days or large scale PFS events like a run of Race for the Runecarved Key. The latter item I can get whenever I ask for it, again free of charge.

So, I'm curious: what are these other companies doing for me that Paizo is not? While I'd love to see Magic-level support, that is likely unrealistic, considering the level of support Wizards themselves gives to a different product line of their own. I think Paizo does an awesome job of supporting Society play, and the game stores who run them. What more would you like to see?

Edit: Added a game to the list...

Lantern Lodge 3/5

Ok, yes I was thinking of encounters and warhammer specifically.

Yes, I know that not all games have free support from the publishers.

However, your entry now makes me wonder what Paizo does do. I had never heard of them donating any giveaways. I didn't know they donated to charity events. That's great.

What I'm wondering is if they have a way to offer boons to stores to give away for loyal players/customers. You say large scale event. How large does it have to be to qualify as 'large'?

Who have you contacted at Paizo to get this support. I know the owner here has tried to contact them several times several ways, and heard nothing back.

I believe 15 tables over the course of an event is required for the convention support stuff.

Mike Brock ( Mike.Brock@paizo.com IIRC) is the coordinator for PFS and is super awesome and helpful, so if you coordinate with him/your Regional Coordinator I'm confident you can get some sort of support for even smaller events.

Pirate Rob has it right. The only thing I'll add is the fact that the 15 tables required to make an event "large" can happen over the course of several days. So, for instance: schedule three tables Friday night, four tables each on Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon, then two tables each on Sunday morning and afternoon, and you will have just scheduled a qualifying event (a mini-convention, as it were).

I have had things sent to me for a charity event that did NOT have 15 tables, however. Mike's a softie, apparently.

And, yes, I got boons to give away. Fair warning: you will need bigger events to get the really exciting things like race boons. The point behind those boons is to drive interest in larger scale events. I hope that makes sense.

As an alternative, to get boons you merely need to do a bit of GMing for a convention locally. Your Venture Captain will be giving away boons at those events, for sure. I know that, when I do this, I end up with duplicates and others that I never intend to use. I always give those away during my own events; again, at the ones I want to drive interest toward.
