[Spes Magna Games] The What Is It? Contest

Product Discussion

I'm working on a new PDF, this one focusing on monsters and enemies. Unfortunately, I've got one picture but no stat block and fluff text to go with it. Here's the offending piece. So, I decided to have a contest. Here're the rules.

The Rules
1. One submission per entrant.

2. Post a complete stat block and fluff text for the creature depicted above in this thread using the standard format for PF monsters. Also, include at least two plot hooks for the monster.

3. Your work must be your own and cannot use anyone's Product Identity or Closed Content material.

4. The deadline is 30 January 2011. After this, all entries are considered final.

5. A winner will be chosen via a poll set up in another thread at EN World. This poll will remain open 31 January through 5 February.

6. All entrants retain rights to their submissions.

The Prize
1. The winner chosen by poll will be included with all due credit in my upcoming Chance Encounters, Volume 1 PDF.

2. The winner will receive a copy of the aforesaid PDF, plus a $10 gift certificate for DriveThruRPG. Reception of the prizes is contingent on me having a valid email address for the winner.

*L* good luck with a picture like that.

Looks like something Hieronymus Bosch would have come up with.

It's a depiction of a sea creature sighted between Antibes and Nice in 1562 taken from Konrad Gesner's Historia Animalia Liber IV (2nd edition, 1604).

And now to figure out how a mad painter can use a cursed version of enter image to force the PCs into The Last Judgement. :)

Scarab Sages

I'm in. Entry is posted. :)

Said the Flumph to the unnamed creature: 'If I'm a misfit monster, wtf are you?'

;-)

Lantern Lodge

is there a general desired CR for the enemy? or even a ballpark of High medium or low? probably the most important factor for me when deciding what kind of abilities / stat block to give a new monster.

He didn't give one so I would say its up to you.

That's correct. :)

Is that something you pulled from a Paul Bunyan illustration or something?

Woo hoo! That's two so far! :)

Six or so more days left to get your submission posted at EN World. Cut off for submissions is 30 January 2011. On 31 January, I'll be setting up the poll to determine the winner. :)

Today is the last day for submissions. Tomorrow I'm going to set up the poll thread. A link will appear in this thread. :)

I'll get the poll thread up and running later today, probably after I get home from work. :)

The thread for voting is at this link. Woo hoo!

I thought they was all pretty good, I went demon just cause I got a thing for demons... I know right? Who knew. :)

Voted.

Interesting to see that there was only four submissions, but I have to confess that it was probably difficult for the average individual to be inspired to stat up this particular creature. You sure did pick an oddball to run with, Mark. :)

I so missed this thread. This was a cool contest, congrats to those that entered.

I bet your wife just loves you to death hearing that.

That was sarcasm by the way, incase you was wondering. :)

Is there an e-mail address that you want the contestents to send their e-mails too?

Well, that was fun! Let's do it again! Yes, it's time for another What Is It? Contest. This time the prize is unlimited bragging rights for having the best monster as judged by the votes of your peers plus any one PDF from my catalog. The picture for WIIC2 comes from Reginald Scot's The Discoverie of Witchcraft (1584).
