Anyone think it would cause any problems to just replace the Ranger's Favored Enemy class abilities (including quarry and improved quarry) with Ranger's Focus and Inspired Moment from the Guide archetype without using the other substitutions?
I like the replacement to favored enemy but I like haveing an animal companion. Think this would be imbalancing at all?

No. I think it would be ok.
PS:but many DM's will say you have to take the good with the bad, and not just keep what you want, and I do agree. I am not saying quarry is bad, but losing it is a downside to getting Ranger's Focus.
Edit:I take that back since quarry would stack with the ranger's focus which. I would not allow both.

That's what I'm saying though. Dump Favored Enemy and Quarry/Improved Quarry and only take Ranger's Focus and Inspired Moment instead of the Terrain Bond and Luck stuff.
I don't think the Ranger's Focus/Inspired Moment are more powerful than Favored Enemy/Quarry/Improved Quarry. I was wondering if anyone else thought they were though.
I just hate the Favored Enemy mechanic. I like everything else about the ranger. :D
Would probably be my favorite class if not for that class ability.

OK. That sounds like an even trade.

I'm in agreement. Trading it out is about the same strength as a smite evil. More bonus to attack, less bonus to damage. I'd say it's deadly in the hands of a TWF or archer.
It's also worth noting that ranger's have several spells that allow them to treat enemies as favored enemies. One in particular (3rd level, I think) lets them treat a single foe as a specific favored enemy; say, your highest bonus? It's a swift action, but 1-3 times/day you'd get the equivalent of the Guide feature. It comes a little late, but it's worth noting.

I don't see any problems with it. You might want to allow acquiring a new favored enemy each time you take a Knowledge appropriate rank for the monster type chosen, and keep the bonus consistent with ranger level.
