Second Darkness finished, a list of thanks


Second Darkness


Well its been a while but we did it.

The group I ran for a year and a half yesterday finished the path with a success! The story and the ending were amazing to me as a GM and simply awesome and full of thrill for my players.

Thank you paizo and the people behind this story for this great AP, we had so much fun playing it, and when I look back not one chapter was bad or uninteresting!

Thank you Joey Virtue for your thread on changes made to the path, it made my life easier and combats better and more challenging for my players.

To each GM that thinks of running this path I can say go for it. Cause its so much fun and the story is great, builds up from the first chapter in a great way, and unveils into an amazing piece that your players will be glad to be a part of in the end.


Congratulations! We're coming up on year 2 in January and are still only in book 4. Of course, we don't get a chance to get together too often, and I've lengthened the adventure in places. (Instead of "Okay, you have a couple of weeks of downtime now," we RP the time out. We've spent the last 3 or 4 sessions just on the "To Serve Evil" random tasks, and we spent 2 sessions in Riddleport completely "off the grid" making stuff up!)

I have luck that me and my players have time to play once every or maybe once every other week.
And yes so much possibilites to play out stuff in the AP. My players had tons of fun in To Serve Evil and we played it in quite a few sessions.

I think your players will enjoy the last two chapters, I know my group did.

After 8 months, we finished up Second Darkness. I wish we could say we all had a grand time, but that would be a lie.

A couple players thoroughly hated the campaign. Though warned before the campaign started, they couldn't get themselves motivated to help elves who seemingly didn't want help. "Why are all Todd's NPCs douchebags?" became a frequent refrain of the campaign. With interest waning, taking out all the glyphs became a real slog.

The campaign ended with the futility that was featured throughout. The party was defeated by Allevrah, the meteor wiping out all of the island chain my elves called home.

I don't want to say it was all bad. The meteor creatures were cool, my PCs had a real hatred for Old Scratch, and the whole turn into a drow thing was satisfying. In the end though, I wasn't able to make this campaign shine.

Parts 1-3 went well. Complaining started in 4 and that turned to b&!++ing in 5. At that point, I suggested the people not enjoying it go ahead and bow out while those of us still interested continued. 1 player took me up on it, the other stayed in. He continued the b!!%@ing culminating in "Thank God that's over" once we had the TPK.

(So DM & 1 player enjoying, 1 player along for the ride, 2 butt-kickers who don't care what the story is along as they kill things, 1 really hating it player stays in, 1 hating it player bowed out).

Ah, I didn't realise that you were still having fun GMing it. In that case, it makes sense to continue.
