So one of my players asked me if they could take Craft Construct. My instinct tells me that its fine. I mean, the reason CC is in the Bestiary and not the Core book is that it constructs are suppose to be the purview of mad wizards in towers or evil dictators ruling a nation with an iron fist.
But that's what we have here.
Ok the wizard is not mad and the dictators are not evil. But the wizard has his own tower and they do rule their own nations.
So, what do you think? As long as they have the funds to sink into it, they can produce mass combat units?

I don't imagine the rules for crafting golems are placed in the bestiary just because players aren't supposed to have them. Else, one would just say "the wizard has a golem." There would be no need for the rules on crafting one. I think they are put there because there is no section of the core rulebook that deals specifically with golems and that just wasn't something to be shoehorned in to make it obvious that they are available to players.
If a PC wants to invest the time and resources into obtaining a golem, I'd let them. It'd be unrealistic (in a way that can't be handwaved away) not to allow it. Besides, golems are awesome. :D

I agree with Thraxus (ninja'd!) - that's a gross misinterpretation of the rule. Especially since a golem isn't an "item" - it's a creature, for all intents and purposes.
And having had several characters take the Craft Construct feat... I, too, would allow my characters to take it if they so wished. And I would allow their kingdom to build construct armies, if they have the BP to pay for it.

You could, however, make a golem into a shield guardian, and make the accompanying shield guardian amulet of control your bonded object.
I've not only done this in the past, but I also made the amulet a sentient magical item perfectly capable of controlling the golem in my absence.
I asked the game designers if that was all legal by the rules, and they said "sure."

Seems fine. Better keep an eye on that Ego score.
