Vampiric Weapons and Thinblades?

4th Edition

Liberty's Edge

Wondering if 4th edition has a vampiric weapon similar to the one it had in 3.5 editions Magic Item Compendium. Either in the core books or a 3rd part source is fine by me.

The same question goes for if there are elven thinblades anymore or something similar. I like the concept of the Swordmage but don't care for using a typical heavy weaponed long sword. However the rapier is just a wasted feat on the same weapon in a way ... so was just curious if there was anything like the thinblade around or another thin, light weapon that is descent for a swordmage to use.

Vampiric: There is still a Vampiric weapon around (in the Adventurer's Vault, I believe), though it doesn't work quite the same as the old one. You can use it once a day to drain the life from an enemy (doing extra damage and healing that amount), and it also drains life from enemies on a critical hit.

There is also a weapon in the PHB called the Lifedrinker weapon, which gives you temporary hitpoints whenever you slay an enemy with it.

Elven Thinblade: I don't think there is anything just like this. However, they did actually recently errata the Rapier to be a military weapon, so it doesn't take any extra feats for a swordmage to get it - so that might solve your problem for you!

Thanks for the info and the response (I can't get to the WotC website at work to ask questions so I have to hope some people view this one).

The news about the rapier actually is fantastic to hear and a welcome change. That does solve my problems and you're my hero for pointing it out.

The vampiric weapon, is it in AV 1 or 2? Also, is the HP gained from that weapon temp or permenant?

Vampiric Weapon is in AV1, and the hp it gives is real healing, not temp hp. 1d8 via the Daily power (or 2d8 or 3d8 at higher levels), and 1d4 per enhancement bonus on a crit.
