I just went and puchased Elemental yesterday and started playing. But there does not seem to be alot of information on the game in the book. I checked out forums a little bit and there are some people who like it. But I gather from reviews and the like out there that the game has issues that need to be sorted out in patches. Did the new patch resolve much? I mostly single player against the computer so I don't worry about the multiplayer aspect.
Also does anyone know where to get a clear idea on the technologies there does not seem to be a set tree out there.

I don't have the game (yet; need a new computer first), but it looks like the trees are here at the game's official Website (click on the little "tree" under each starting tech to see how it branches out):

I would review the forums linked there as well as I imagine they have the answers to a number of your questions.
The only other thing I can say is that Stardock has a good reputation for being reliable and I'm sure that if there aren't patches out yet, they will be soon. I assume when you bought Elemental, when you installed you should have gotten an option to sign up for Impulse (a digital download service somewhat akin to Steam). I think if you do that you'll be notified when patches come out and can download the patches via Impulse pretty easily (I have an Impulse account from when I got GalCiv II).
