My Group has agreed to letting me run "One ofs" of different games to introduce them to other systems, between my ongoing Pathfinder AP game.

I want to start off with Call of Cthulhu.

I am unfamiliar to the publishing side for this game so I don't know what is good out there, I am looking for a good Adventure that is good for 6 players.

Also I will be making 6 Pre made characters, any suggestions of characters I can make up for them?

Only book I own is 6th edition Core book, and I have never ran it, it will be a first for all of us.

Masks of Nyarlathotep

Easily the best adventure ever written for CoC. Don't worry too much about edition - the changes between one edition and the next are extremely minimal ime. I've used 3rd edition stuff with my 5th edition rulebook with no problem whatsoever.

Int he adventure avoid the temptation (and it will be strong if you are coming from games like 3E or 4E D&D) to 'save' the PCs. PCs die and are driven insane in CoC even in long term games. let it happen but always have a ready pool of NPCs the players can draw new PCs from. I remember making a new PC out of a porter NPC we had with us for a dozen game sessions.

MoN is a great campaig, but it may not fit as a one-off (unless you just do the first chapter and see if there is interest to expand into the full campaign).

For classic 1920's 'The Haunting' (included in the rulebook I think) is a rite of passage for many.... I would also suggest looking at 'The Haunted House' - unsure what book it appeared in but its a personal favourite.

For the modern day setting, I always have a soft spot for 'The Killer Out Of Space' and 'The Evil Stars' from Cthulhu Now.

The Exchange

Masks is awesome, but it's not a 'one off' or an 'introduction' adventure, it's a campaign with a rather long term commitment.

The Doom From Below is a good one night adventure.

The Mansions Of Madness book is a pretty great book to use. It's packed with six scenarios - I personally really like the Sanatorium (I'm running it right now for a PbP here), but Mr. Corbitt is arguably a better one-nighter.

The best Call of Cthulhu one-shot adventures I played came from the adventure compilation "Blood Brothers". Note that the adventures are generic horror movie pastiches however (e.g. a vampire movie scenario, a zombie movie scenario, an "Alien" movie scenario, etc.), and not Cthulhu mythos adventures. But we had a blast with some of them! Pregenerated characters are included.

*smacks forehead*

Man, did I ever misread the OPs post. I honestly thought he was done playing one shots and wanted a full campaign in Call of Cthulhu.

Yikes. I think i must be getting senile in my old age. Sorry about that Dragnmoon! MoN would be a terrible adventure as a one-shot! You'd barely get the intro done!

Chaosium's website has a ton of free adventures you can download...(I think in the "fan Created" area, or on a link to another site. Many of them have their own Pre-Gen's with them.

I picked up the first one that Goodman Games put out called Death in Luxor, and thought it was a pretty cool adventure. It has pregens with it, and lots of good player handouts. It has the potential to be very deadly though, and my group didn't make it through to the end.

I also agree with the poster that mentioned Mansions of Madness. It has several pretty cool looking adventures. I ran one of them. I forget the name, but it involved the investigators traveling to a plantation in North Carolina and dealing with a cult of Yith. We had a lot of fun playing that one. It took us about 2 or 3 sesssions.

I really enjoyed "Curse of the Yellow Sign" by John Wick. There are two parts, but they are really just connected by theme. They both take place in very different locations with different sets of pre-made characters.

When "Red Eye of Azathoth" from Open Design is released (in a couple months I hope), that will be an amazing anthology.

You could say ... this thread is relevant to my interests. I have read through the rulebook now, so I have a pretty good understanding about how the mechanics work. My normal gaming buddy and I want to get in a game before I move to WA (from TX) in two weeks.

In case you want to use something familiar the d20 CoC system is excellent also. I won't say better/worse, but it does have the right feel.

What era do you want for your introduction? 30s? Gaslight? Modern?

THe best introductory scenarios for Call of Cthulhu are right there in the book. 'The Haunting' and 'The edge of darkness' Both are cool and simple.

The Doom from Below is quite fun - and it is intended to provide a single evening's entertainment and has pre-gens provided.

The one flaw is that you'll have to come up with your own reasons to get the characters to the starting point. Other than that, it's self-contained and has plenty to give them a real feel of Call of Cthulhu.

There is also "Snows of an early winter" by this Agresta guy. Set in contemporary NY. Very good introductionary adventure.

I have the 5th ed book so they may not be in there but the intro adventures that come with the rules were great to start off. Dead Man's Stomp is the best out of the lot but Edge of Darkness is a great though very standard horror setup.
