A book of henchmen? A series?

Scarab Sages

Ditheringfool mentioned leadership and henchmen in another thread and I didn't want to derail it, but it got me thinking: would there be interest in a book or series of books that detailed henchmen for the leadership feat. Basically a book of NPC stats, coupled with personality notes and perhaps brief histories. The idea would be to do one such book say for a cleric with leadership, one for a monk, etc. Or perhaps do it according to alignment or some other defining characteristic.

Its just sort of a brainstorm but I wasn't sure how valuable Players or GMS might find such a game-aid and thought I would ask.

Might be ok. Not sure how much people need ready made NPC's. I tend to always make my own to costume build them to fit the campaign and group. Not sure about others.

Though a book of villains might be cool. Especially if one of them was a succubus mistress of darkness and secret affairs and lust.

I'd say that this would be a niche product... only once in a decade does anyone in my group actually take the Leadership feat, let alone gets to use it, but when that is said... one of the Players just took it! But honestly, I think he would love to stat up his henchmen on his own... not sure that he would buy or use such a product.

I think this is an outstanding idea. DMs will always need help putting together their stories and detailing the characteristics of NPCs and main line Henchmen. A PC with Leadership really isn't taking on an NPC (Unless the DM wants to Pre-Generate and run the Henchmen) they are really creating an extension of their character. But an enemy NPC with Leadership is most certainly taking on another NPC which, without a book like what you are suggesting, the DM will have to Stat and flesh out.

So a series of containing villainous henchmen?

That is not to say that good or neutral NPC Henchmen wouldn't be a good idea too. The DM needs to create good and neutral NPCs with henchmen and back stories and fully fleshed out characteristics as much or more than he does the bad guys. Only name brand bad guys and henchmen stay in a story for very long. But good/neutral NPCs can last a long time. I suppose both would be great ideas for a product. I just might not advertise it as PC Leadership henchmen, because PCs might want to build their own. This would be more a tool for DMs building their communities. However, a secondary audience could be PCs who just don't feel like fleshing out their own henchmen.

Maybe have a section for both!

I'd certainly consider buying such a product. Heck, I'd even be interested in helping create it! ;)

I was more just talking villains but there henchmen would work too. Sides I would likely need to be epic, I mean i have my own swords and cult already.

Shadowblade

And for the record I didn't write it, but was consulted about it before he did it. I still find it funny.
