Alternatives certainly look better.
The reason I posted it is, that if you can't see the problem with the old ability, there's not much point in asking for more suggestions about the rest of the class, respectfully.
The point is that if the new bloodline version doesn't have the old rule, there's not much point in continuing to harp on the old rule.
Now, which alternative do you like better?

Changelings start with 'alter self'. Would you bump the ability up or modify it in some way? They start with Linguistics and the Bloodline gives them Disguise, although some suggest Linguistics in its place.

The bloodline doesn't do anything special with Alter Self. I see no reason why taking a Changeling with the Shape changer bloodline would cause any problems. Do you? As I see it, the race and the bloodline should be very compatible without any changes.

Not off hand, but I am re-setting my 35 yo game with a number of Bloodlines and have a few shapeshifting player races that range from the partials such as Shifters to wide ranging Changelings and campaign specific Herak'n'Kan (magical energy beings that assemble bodies out of expended magical items).
