"It is agreed then. We will return to the Gold Goblin now to introduce Ceph to the boss. Then tomorrow when our normal duties at the Goblin are complete, we can begin our investigation. Ironleg, since you are more comfortable at the temples why don't you accompany me. Kozaric, do you mind going with Ceph and Cavan to speak with the mages? Riddleport is still dangerous, and they could you use someone with your skills in case any trouble pops up. And since we all have indicated that we are willing to pay for these drinks, let's get the tab and split it 4 ways. Ceph you will get your turn later once you have steady employment."

With that Eroril, gets the attention of the waiter, and indicates we are ready for our tab.

Megan, can you give us some locations of local temples and the Cypherlodge so that we can begin our investigation after we get Ceph a job at the Gold Goblin?

I surely can... please give me until Tuesday as I have a job interview tomorrow! Then you can go back to the Gold Goblin, get some sleep (it's getting late) and start investigating in the morning.

Thanks - good look on your interview!

Once the tab has been settled, the group heads back to Gold Goblin. Eroril shows Ceph the treasure recovered a few nights ago:

-wand Wand of Shocking Grasp
-scroll Scroll of Shrink (I think, my spell craft skills were a little shaky.)
-book Spell book but no one can recognize the spells
-rapier
-sickle
-short sword
-Sap
-light crossbow
-10 bolts
-bracers bracers of armour +1
-leather armor – masterwork
-studded leather armor
-(2) Belt pouches
-50gp's worth of Golden Goblin gaming chips X 150% = 75g
-8gp

"You may have any of the magic items you wish"

Eroril, I took the bracers for the monk already. I think we talked in the discussion thread about it. And anything Ceph doesn't want, I say we sell and divvy up between the group.

Ooops, You're right. I forgot. And I agree with selling the remaining items.

"Ah, thank you.... very much"
Cephadrel pockets the wand and scroll and spellbook. Taking time to get everything in a good place.
"Unless anyone is dying to hear the results I think I'll wait till the morning to go over the spellbook, I don't feel.... up to it right now"

Map of Riddleport - I'll update it as you discover things or ask pertinent questions.

Back to the Gold Goblin, then? It's getting late - around midnight, you reckon - and even here in the Publican House things are quietening down a bit.

At least, as nothing else untoward has happened, the regular ferryman is back at his post to take you across the river.

"Across the river, please sir," Ironleg directs the ferryman. "Let's get back to the Goblin for the evening."

"Yes, its getting late and we have a long day of work tomorrow at the Goblin, selling the left over gear and investigating these recent strange happenings."

If Feldin is still awake when we arrive back at the Gold Goblin, Eroril introduces Ceph and recommends to Feldin that Ceph would be a fine hire for Mr. Vankerkaskin. He tells Feldin that he has known Ceph for a very long time and will vouch for his worthiness.

If Feldin, is not available, Eroril offers to Ceph that he can bunk in his room for the evening until better quarters can be secured.

Feldin is fast asleep... in fact the whole place is dark.

Anyone want to do anything before morning or shall we move on?

Kozaric turns to his companions and offers a slight wave of his hand. "And with that I bid you goodnight, someone has to be up and moving in the morning."

Kozaric then turns and walks to his room for some much needed sleep.

"I too must get up early to meditate. Good night all."

Ironleg also excuses himself for the evening. "Ceph, I suppose you can crash with any of us, and we can do proper introductions to the boss in the morning."

And a new day dawns...

... with a loud rattling and clatter from outside, sounds like objects falling from the sky. The bronze dome of the Gold Goblin rings like a bell from the onslaught!

"Up everyone, something's going on!" the dwarf yells as he jumps out of bed, and runs outside to see what the disturbance was. Is this another of the weird happenings that are happening here? he asks himself during his trip outside.

Kozaric wakes with a start to the loud clatter of the bronze dome ringing. He snatches his bow and quiver and opens the door to his room seeing Ironleg running out side he runs after him easily catching up. "This much strangeness can not be work of nature Ironleg."

As Eroril completes his morning meditation, he is startled by the loud ringing of the Gold Goblin Dome being battered. He hurries downstairs to investigate. "Is everyone alright?"

Liberty's Edge

Outside, tiny objects are falling from a clear blue sky!

As you stand looking upwards, the objects increase in size, their impact now beginning to do damage - cracking tiles, ripping awnings and proving quite painful to anybody struck by one.

May I have a Reflex save from anyone standing outside, please?

What are you going to do?

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15

If the an object is not too large to handle, Eroril grabs an object and hurries back under shelter to examine the object.

Standing in the entrance way, Kozaric stares into the sky wondering what this city had done to anger the gods, and watching the damage cuased by the falling objects.

Ironleg had run outside to take a look at the occurrence. He tried to dodge the falling objects, and run back into the Goblin to take cover.

Reflex 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25

Cephadrel, after getting properly dressed, runs the the door way and peers outside, "Now that is curious, looks like I arrived here at the right time" then to the folks in the Goblin "Was anyone hurt?"

Eroril retrieves a sample without difficulty (or getting hit!), examination reveals it to be a tiny piece of porous black rock - looking almost volcanic in nature, although you cannot figure out precisely what it is.

Ironleg has little difficulty in dodging the 'hail' although he feels safer inside.

Kozaric is safe in the doorway, being disturbed in his philosophical contemplations by the arrival of Chephadrel.

Saul comes down, wearing a nightshirt and nightcap, wondering what all the racket might be...

Kozaric turns and comes to a semi relaxed form of attention, "Good morning Sir, it seems the gods have chosen this morning to present us with some gifts from the heavans. I hope it dosen't cause to much damage to this fine establishment."

Over the racket of the falling rocks, Eroril shouts "Hello Mr Vankerkaskin, not the best wake up call I suspect. The city is being pelted by these volcanic type rocks!" He holds up the rock for Saul to see. "And not the best time, but allow me to introduce Cephadrel Drocaloron. He's an old friend from home, but we can discuss that later!"

As Eroril continues to examine the volcanic rock, he casts detect magic to determine if the source of the rocks is magical.

If he does detect magic, he will continue to study the rock until he finds out all that he can about the magical nature of the rock.

Ironleg continues to look outside the still open door, making sure no one has been knocked senseless by the hail of rocks. If so, he will go out and gather them up, bringing them inside to safety.

Let me know what kind of rolls I need to make if there is anyone outside.

After examining the rock, Eroril moves up beside Ironleg, and peers into the sky to determine if there is a single source of the rock from the sky.

Can the blot in the sky be seen from this doorway? If not, is there another place within the shelter of the Gold Goblin where Eroril can observe the blot for changes without getting pelted?

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Eroril casts detect magic on his pet rock. The rock itself is not magical but there's definitely something going on magically... concentrating is giving him a headache! The rock is noticeably cold to the touch, and lighter than you'd expect.

The Blot is visible, it seems to be writhing in the sky.

Folks have managed to get under cover, so Ironleg may remain in safety.

The fall of rocks ends, and for a few moments there is silence...

... and then the rocks, even the one in Eroril's hand, evaporate into nothingless.

Momentarily disoriented by what he had observed, Irongleg can only utter a low, "Now that has never happened in Riddleport before, that's for sure."

Eroril points toward the blot in the sky.

"Look, the blot in the sky seems to be moving. Its sudden change must be related to these strange occurrences. When I tried to detect magic on the rock, I sensed that something magical was happening, but it wasn't coming from the rock. It came from somewhere else. But when I continued to concentrate, I couldn't because I began to have a searing headache. And now the rock has disappeared."

Eroril goes back into the Gold Goblin to consult with others.

Kozaric shrugs and pulls out a pipe and lights it with a tender stick. He inhales deeply and exhales a large cloud of smoke. He then begins coughing, and holds the pipe up to look at it. Still coughing, he throws it into the street.
When he gets his breath back he stands up and straitens his tunic."Definitely strange."He walks back to his room shaking his head.

Cephadrel, continuing to be silent walks to his stuff and begins preparing spells.

Saul says that if Eroril vouches for him, Cephadrel is welcome to join the group on the same terms as everyone else. Preparations for the re-opening are in hand, it's set for tomorrow evening and you will all have to be there, in fact it might be helpful if you are around that afternoon as well. But until then your time is your own.

What does everyone want to do?

"Thank you Mr. Vankeskerkin, you will not be disappointed. Ceph is a fine addition to the team."

Turning the remaining members of the group that are in the main hall, Eroril says "It looks like we will have a very busy day ahead of us. I think this morning is an excellent time to sell the unwanted gear, buy any supplies we need, and do some investigation into these strange happenings. If I recall, the plan was for Ironleg and I to visit the temples and Kozaric, Ceph and Prylfellow to speak with the Cyphermages. We can meet back around lunch?"

Sounds like a plan, Eroril. Things are getting worse here every day. Maybe we can find out exactly what is happening."

"Right then, lets visit these cyphermages ans see what they can tell us. Then we meet back here and prepare security for tomorrows reopening."

Liberty's Edge

You all set out on your errands. The townfolk are all discussing the wierd rockfall...

The Cypher Lodge is a grand structure of stone and timber sits perched upon a lonely crag nestled against the very slope of the Gaston Cromarcky mountain, and provides a panoramic view of both the gulf and the city. More importantly, its three wings look directly out over the Cyphergate. As Kozaric, Cephadrel and Prylfellow approach the door, flocks of sea gulls suddenly take to the air and begin flying in a growing cacophonous spiral. This continues for several minutes as large flocks wheel above the city in ever-gathering numbers. Several robed figures come out of the Cypher Lodge to watch.

Ironleg and Eroril can see the gulls from where they are in town. The astonishing sight has stilled the tongues wagging about the falling rocks...

Which temples do Ironleg and Eroril want to visit?

Eroril and Ironleg's first stop is at the local armory. We sell the remaining gear at half off for a total of 129 gold pieces. Then we go out in search of the temples of Torag, Iori and Pharasma to gather more information.

As we start out for the temples, Eroril spots the gulls gathering and flying in a strange way and remarks to Ironleg "I have never seen so many gulls flying together in that type of formation before. It seems to be coming from the direction of the Cypher Lodge. That was where the others were headed. Do you think this is another of those strange occurrences?"

"Eroril, my friend, I am not sure what to think any more. Strange things sure have been going on here. And it has gotten much worse lately. It has to have something to do with the Blot."

"I agree. Perhaps we should head to the Cypher Lodge to make sure our friends are not in trouble. I do not like the looks of the growing swarm of gulls."

Kozaric stands in front of the Cypher Lodge watching the sea gulls fly in their strange pattern. ”Strange days indeed my friends. This is not a normal occurrence, of this I am sure.”

"Indeed there seem to be many strange occurrences here lately, lucky us. Anyway does anyone have any ideas on how to go about this? Or should we just go in with a, hey, so how 'bout them rocks falling from the sky?"

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

The gulls' erratic flight brings them into proximity to the Cyphergate, where they crash into it violently by the hundreds before the few survivors continue their ragged flight out to sea.

"Well, guess we don't have to worry about the gulls anymore," Ironleg says to the cleric, shaking his head. "I say we head on in the temple...they have to know more than we do."

"By Erastil's furry arse! Has the world gone crazy?!"
Kozaric turns to the gathered Cypher Mages, "Explaine that then!"

"Yes, Ironleg, I agree, which temple should we go to first?"

Cephadrel to himself "Well that answers that question"

"Let's go to the closest one, and start from there, Eroril."

DM, not sure which temple would be closest.

"Good idea Ironleg, I thought visiting my god, Torag, your god, Irori, and Pharasma are good places to start. Let's head out to the closest temple."

Ironleg and Eroril: The main temples in Riddleport are St. Caspieran's Mission (Sarenrae), the House of the Silken Veil (Calistria), The Fish Bowl (Besmara) and the Publican House (Cayden Cailean). Most other faiths are supported by visiting clerics or small groups of devotees meeting in each other's houses to worship; and there are several priests of Desna and Gozreh who tend to small congregations across the town.

Put it this way, it's not the most religious of towns!

Kozaric, Cephadrel and Prylfellow: You approach the robed figures outside the Cypher Lodge, who are discussing the strange behaviour of the gulls. One turns to you as you approach. He's a tall, thin human with long ginger hair flowing down his back, wearing a black robe.

"Morning," he says. "Have you ever seen gulls behave quite like that before?"
