Random World Gods

Homebrew and House Rules

This is the thread where Random Gods will be generated for the Random World.

First Alignment:

1. LG
2. LN
3. LE
4. NG
5. N
6. NE
7. CG
8. CN
9. CE
10. Unaligned!

Next power:

1. Quasi
2. Demi
3. Lesser
4. Intermediate
5. Greater
6. Elder

Finally, two random words. Lets start right now...

1d10 ⇒ 8
1d6 ⇒ 2

This Demigod or Demigoddess is Chaotic Neutral, and the two random words are printer and deserving. Maybe I should add a roll for male or female? That would help,
1. Male
2. Female

1d2 ⇒ 2

OK, it is a 2, so she's a she. A Demigoddess, CN, and the two words are printer and deserving. Printer suggests books, writing, and she is insane. The goddess of insane writers? Perhaps for the random world the role of a deity isn't so clear. OK, deserving sounds like Deserva, good name

Deserva was the daughter of an ancient god, and she was told not to look into the Book of Madness. She didn't listen, so she did and what she saw drove her quite mad. Today she wanders the planes carrying a book that she will never open again.

Her clery and followers are very small, but there are some writers who have been mad been their devotion, and they pray to her for help. Of course, she isn't exactly aware of her worshippers and priests. Her symbol would be a old, worn out book. No favored weapon, unless they hit you with their book.

Pick two obvious domains.

It's a Chaotic Evil, Quasi-God; the random words are Scored and Hush. My first reaction is of an assassin. I will call him Sored. He loves to kill. He enjoys killing with a knife, because it gets him closer to his victim. He would kill for free, and he often did. He got so "good" at it, that the infernal powers granted him the beginnings of godhood.

Other assassins have begun to whisper his name in prayer. He has visited the infernal planes, just for fun, and he is looking forward to establishing a clergy here on the world. His favored weapon is a knife. Red and black are his favorite colors.

Lets move on:

1d10 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d2 ⇒ 1

Its a Lawful Neutral Demigod; the random words are camp and preserving.
This one is obvious. A camp tells me its part of nature, and he is preserving it. He is a Demigod, so his clergy is not large. They are very devoted defenders of nature, and preserving it. His followers would be like very strict park rangers who follow the rules to the letter.

His clerics are druids, of course, and are shunned by other druids. His name isn't coming to me...Reveri...that would be good.

Next!

1d10 ⇒ 3
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d2 ⇒ 1

Its a Lawful Evil, Greater God; the random words are generator and jet. I see it...his name is Jet, as in jet black, like black coal. He is an evil, underground god. He has created, or generated, a massive, obsideon fortress under the world. It connects directly to his dark plane.

His appearence changes, but it is always of a completely jet colored male, usually Dwarven. He carries a black axe, and so do his clerics. He has a very large following among the dark creatures of the underworld. His also has a following above ground to, where he hopes to extend his domain.

Next time:

1d10 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d2 ⇒ 2

Its a Lawful Neutral, Greater Goddess; the random words are stole and orbital...I get it...orbital, female, a moon goodess. Obvious domains would be moon, time, law...stole would be the name part...maybe...Estola? Tola. I like that. I could make it work.

She is far more concerned with keeping track of time than her clergy. They are concerned with keeping careful records of history and marking the passing of time. Tola is not the only moon. It is a gray colored moon...

1d10 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d2 ⇒ 1

Its another Lawful Neutral, Demigod; the random words are rise and faucet...hahaha...ok, faucet = water, he is a sea god, he travels the seas on his ship...he keeps a rigid, unbending course, he is looking for souls to transport to the otherside...aha...his name Rison

His worshippers are very limited, mostly sailors and pirates who don't want to meet him. His clergy would be very strict priests on some ships. Maybe...

This randomness has forced me to go in directions I wouldn't have...good...next time:

OK, the last time it gave me a LG, Lesser Goddess; the random words are attention and button...hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Attention

observant care; consideration: Individual attention is given to each child.
4. civility or courtesy: attention to a guest.
5. notice or awareness: His deliberate cough caught the waiter's attention.
6. attentions, acts of courtesy or devotion indicating affection, as in courtship.
7. Military . an erect position with eyes to the front, arms to the sides, and heels together (often used as a command).

Her name? It has to come from Button, which using the thesaurus is another world for babe or angelface. She is very young looking and attractive, so I will name her Angela. Perhaps she was once an angel who was promoted.

Angela is a goddess of battle, war, especially the war against evil. Her favorite weapon is a long sword. Her clergy consists of women clerics who inspire women on the battlefield. She is a lesser-goddess, because most women don't want to go to war. However, she is a well known goddess.

She appears on the world as a stern looking, golden haired warrior wearing golden armor and shield.

Ok, for next time...

1d6 ⇒ 1
1d2 ⇒ 2

OK, a Neutral, Quasi-Goddess, the random words are fair and gay...let the jokes begin...and this is an easy one...Her name is Farrah, for she is truly fair, beautiful, and she wants everyone to be happy, regardless of alignment. Gay really does mean happiness, and Farrah wants to spread happiness everywhere.

She was once a mortal, but her happiness became so great that she found that godhood was being transferred into her. She appears on the world as a fair looking, Half-Elven beauty with long, brown hair that is usually in a bun on her head. She likes to wear green dresses.

Farrah's neutrality in life has become a problem for her, because other good people don't understand why she would want evil people to be happy. Of course, she just smiles and gives them a flower.

A Lawful Evil, Intermediate God; the random words are chalk and middle. He has chalk-white skin...he is in the middle of something...he strict, rigid...Kale...he is a god of terrorism...his followers go and kill themselves for their extreme positions.

Kale, who appears on the world as a bald man with albanio white skin, is only interrested in striking fear into the hearts of others. He orders his worshippers with military precision, thus the LE alignment. His status has risen lately along the lands, and one day he hopes to make everyone, including the other gods, filled with fear.

OK, an Unaligned, Elder Goddess! Bridge and Mate! She existed before the dawn of time. She was one of the Elder Powers that existed when the stars were being made, before the other gods were even born. Bridge...a literally bridge to the Otherside.

She is the guardian at the bridge to the Otherside. She stands resolute, uncaring, unaligned. She only lets those pass who have been authorized to do so by the Creators. For Mate, lets give her a simple name of Matia. Those who have actually seen her have seen a tall, humanoid looking woman in bronze armor carrying a shield and a spear.
She was also the mate of a Creator, but something happened to end their relationship.

1d2 ⇒ 1

A Neutral, Greater-God; the random words are exit and pseudo. Exit as in final exit, death. Pseudo...1. not actually but having the appearance of; pretended; false or spurious; sham.
2. almost, approaching, or trying to be.

You know, I want to go with something else. I will call him Seudo, a neutral god for sure. Death is an illusion, he says, and it leads to something else. That is his messege, and on his side of the world he has a very large following. This has an Eastern feeling, at least for the random world.

Matia's mate coming next?

Laurefindel wrote:
Matia's mate coming next?

Yes, Laure, he is! Its an Unaligned, Elder God and the random words are Platform and Installation...

He was the mate of Matia; he created the bridge from the Otherside, and for some reason she must guard on it. She is the Guardian, and he is the Other. I will assume his name is Platos, but I can't be sure. Few know their real names or purposes. Some select Greater Gods have communicated with him, but their conversations have been kept secret.

We just they had something to do with the creation of the world, and everything else we see...

A LE, Greater-Goddess; random words are pedal and jumping...hmmmmm...jumping suggests something physical and medal suggest military...why not a goddess of tryanny? Her followers goals are to enslave the world in an evil, military state. I will call her Medala. Her clerics give themselves titles like general, so I guess she would be like the president in the military change of command.

You know, if I may side trek a bit, I may go back and change the name of the moon goddess Tola. I don't like her name. Any suggestions? However, I do like Medalla. Randomness works!

1d10 ⇒ 1
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d2 ⇒ 2

Its a LG, Greater-Goddess; the random words are sunk and regular...ok, she is Larel, the goddess of light, and a general in the war against darkness; Angela reports to her. Lots of female goddesses so far. The sunk part could be her story. When she was a baby a evil god threw her into the ocean to drown her, but she rose from the water with the morning light, fully grown and ready for battle. Maybe it was Jet?

I see her with flowing, white hair, white robes, and a shining white staff. Yes...lets move on...

1d10 ⇒ 10
1d6 ⇒ 3
1d2 ⇒ 1

An Unaligned, Lesser-God; random words are proportional and bash...OK...being Unaligned on this world means the deity doesn't care or just doesn't want to get involved...This is a lesser known god called Bashon; he is a god of trade & measurements & weights. It is vitally important for traders, who truly don't care about anything except making money.

Bashon's clergy preach uninvolvement and leaving everyone alone. In some places he is popular, in others he is not. That might work...for next time...

1d10 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 3
1d2 ⇒ 2

A Neutral, Lesser-Goddess; random words are Voluntary and Main; hmmmmmmmmmm...main= a. of or pertaining to a mainmast. b. noting or pertaining to a sail, yard, boom, etc., or to any rigging belonging to a mainmast. c. noting any stay running aft and upward to the head of a mainmast: main topmast stay...

Voluntary=Tavona, she is a sea goddess and the sister to the very grim Rison. She sails the seas in her massive ship, and she makes sure everything is in balance. Her clergy are not there to actually help anyone, unless to do so would restore the balance of the seas. They also protect the seas from those who would harm it; there are spells that hurt the environment.

OK, for next time...

1d6 ⇒ 3
1d2 ⇒ 1

A CG, Lesser-God; the random words are asset and tube. I promised a friend here, Tejon, that I would name a god after him, so this is it. I just need to find out what he is a god of...

asset is a useful thing, something of value, cash
tube-is like a cylinder, something you put something in, like a scroll?

I see a Robin Hood type, he steals from the rich and gives to the poor. He, and his clergy, are trying to do good things, but they willingly break the rules to do it. He is a popular god, but he is a lesser god due to his clergy's criminal acts. He is also called Tejon the Thief, which he hates. He is simply making things right, in his own way.

Good, that was good...for tomorrow...

A NE, Elder Goddess; random words are support and naughty; I get it she supports naughty behavior; she is SIN. Literally. She is evil. She was there when EVIL was created. She committed the first sin. Evil deities whisper her name in secret. Sin has a keen interest in this world for reasons unknown.

A Neutral, Greater Goddess; random words are layer and toy.

She is the Earth goddess, Reyla.

Layer: Horticulture .
a. a shoot or twig that is induced to root while still attached to the living stock, as by bending and covering with soil.
b. a plant so propagated

I see a brown haired Earth Goddess, with green leaves in her hair, playing with wooden toys on the ground. She is a giant, and the toys are her people.

Lots of Neutral and Lawful Neutral deities in that pantheon. With two unaligned yet dedicated gods at its head, that is not surprising...

I see a pastern in your randomness...

I see a pastern in your randomness...

There must be some order to this chaos...lol

This tread is too awesome to be derailed, but it just confirms many "proven" (read observed) theories about organization and randomness...

Question; did you plan to close the pantheon on a certain trigger, or are you going to keep expanding it until... (?)

I will keep it going until it stops on its own. I will probably just get a feeling...

A NG, lesser-goddess; random words are age and tail; her name will come from tail=Taila; from age I get “a period of human life, measured by years from birth, usually marked by a certain stage or degree of mental or physical development and involving legal responsibility and capacity…”
Taila is a goddess of life and fertility. She appears on the world has a plump, red haired hair woman, usually human, who looks like a mother. Most of her clergy are women, and they are known as midwives. They also stand up for women who have been abused by men.

It is a CN, Greater Goddess; the random words are outcome and doubling…

Outcome-1. a final product or end result; consequence; issue.
2. a conclusion reached through a process of logical thinking.

Doubling-twofold in character, meaning, or conduct; dual or ambiguous: a double interpretation. I have to call her Binari.

I see her as the Goddess of Madness. She has two faces, literally. One is always happy, and the other is always angry. You might call her a bit bipolar.

Supposedly, Binari was the wife of an ancient god (related to Derva?) who was told not to look into the Mirror of Destiny, which was covered up with a sheet. She didn't listen to him, so she took down the sheet and she saw the destiny of the world. It drove her quite mad. To fix it she created another face that was always happy, and she became the Goddess of Madness, Destiny and Duality.

She has a very large following on the world, due to the popularity of her church services. Her clerics willingly drive themselves mad during their services, and it is a spectacle to behold. Many people are her followers just to attend her church. Of course, real worshippers of Binari are slowly driven mad, but they don't seem to mind.

Ok, for next time...

A CN, Elder-God; the random words are outer and roof.

outer-situated farther out or farther from the center: the outer reaches of space.

roof-the highest part or summit: The Himalayas are the roof of the world.

He is Storm. He was the First Storm, that ravaged the universe and finally the world. He errupts without warning or reason. He is the storms, the rain, the lightning, and the thunder. He will be the Last Storm. Storm is beyond reason. He can't be talked to or bargained with. He can only be survived. He exists just outside of space, in the Outer Reaches, where chaos and madness reign...

1d10 ⇒ 8
1d6 ⇒ 6
1d2 ⇒ 2

Hahahaha...and now a CN, Elder-Goddess! The random words are slave and vintage...

vintage-1.the wine from a particular harvest or crop.
2.the annual produce of the grape harvest, esp. with reference to the wine obtained.
3.an exceptionally fine wine from the crop of a good year.
4.the time of gathering grapes, or of winemaking.
5.the act or process of producing wine; winemaking

slave-she was the slave to another person in the Otherside, where Platos still lives. Was she his slave? When she came to this Universe, she was unleashed, and she became Passion. That is what she is, and it is her name; she is Passion.

Like Storm, Passion is unpredictable. She causes the Gods to lose control, and they pass that on to their worshippers.

(I should not here that Elder Gods are not directly worshipped by mere mortals). She goes from world to world delivering her passion, and sometimes those worlds are destroyed. Oh well, she simply moves on to the next one, maybe this one...

A CE Lesser-God; the random words are discovery and eager...well, lets see...

discovery-1. the act, process, or an instance of discovering
2. a person, place, or thing that has been discovered
3. law the compulsory disclosure by a party to an action of relevant documents in his possession

eager-1. ( postpositive; often foll by to or for ) impatiently desirous (of); anxious or avid (for): he was eager to see her departure
2. characterized by or feeling expectancy or great desire: an eager look
3. archaic tart or biting; sharp

Eagar, the god of slander. His followers don't just tell lies, they tell destructive lies that ruin people's lives. He is still a lesser god, but his flock is "eager" and growing. In fact, they lie about how big their church is.

Eagar appears as a very thin man with white hair, and a wicked grin. Nothing he says can be trusted. He tells lies recklessly, and his goal is to spread ruinous chaos throughout the world....

The rolls give me A LE Intermediate-God; random words are
consequence-. a result or effect of some previous occurrence
2. an unpleasant result (esp in the phrase take the consequences )
3. significance or importance: it's of no consequence ; a man of consequence

Attachment-. the act of attaching or the state of being attached
5. a. the arrest of a person for disobedience to a court order
b. the lawful seizure of property and placing of it under control of a court
c. a writ authorizing such arrest or seizure
6. law the binding of a debt in the hands of a garnishee until its disposition has been decided by the court

Zeon the Executioner. He reports directly to Medala. He has executed gods before at her command, and he does it with methodical skill. He appears as a classic Executioner with a black hood and a bloody axe. His clerics dress the same, and are often called to perform executions. They enjoy their work, even though they know that one day they too will be executed. That is the part Zeon enjoys the most, sending his most devoted worshippers into the darkest pits of Hell.

A LE, Demigod...random words are recovery and counterexample...

From recovery I get his name, Vecore
From counterexample, I get, we will make an example out of you.

He is Vecore the Torturer. Another member of Medala's army, his mission is to torture those people or gods that Medala doesn't want to execute. Vecore does his work methodically and with great skill. He wants to draw out the agony as long as possible.

Ironically, he also has great healing skills, because he has to keep his victims alive as long as possible. His clerics are highly skilled in torture and the healing of wounds.

When he appears on the world he looks like a tall, thin man dressed in black and carrying a knife in one hand and a rope in the other.

A LE, Quasi-God; the random words are spiritual and birth. I am seeing an undead knight. He served the forces of darkness honorable for centuries, before he was slain by a powerful paladin. However, he was so "good" at what he did that the dark god Jet rose him from the grave, which is part of his domain, and he instilled a Quasi-God status into him. He was reborn...

His name is...Parthal, and when he appears he looks like a big, muscular man in black armor, but his face is a skull with glowing, red eyes. He welds an ebony sword that can turn any mortal into an undead creature with just one cut. He hopes to rise in power so he can raise an undead army to dominate the world.

A NE, lesser-goddess; random words are kernel and unity;

kernel=Karlene

unity-absence of diversity; unvaried or uniform character. one of the three principles of dramatic structure (the three unities) derived from Aristotelian aesthetics and formalized in the neoclassic canon in which a play is required to represent action as taking place in one day (unity of time), as occurring within one place (unity of place), and as having a single plot with a beginning, middle, and end (unity of action).

Karlene is the goddess of tradgey. She appears on the world looking like a bad actress; a powdery face, too much makeup, an oversized wig, a badly fitting dress. Her acting is even worse, but its so evil that it causes mere mortals who watch her to want to kill themselves.

Her clerics perform these tragedies at their temples, and it isn't uncommon to have several suicides in a service. In fact, her clerics pray for that.
