August 25, 2010:
Russia sees a growth market for its Kilo class diesel electric submarines, a 30 year old design that first entered service in 1982.
The Kilos have six torpedo tubes, and the combination of quietness and cruise missiles makes Kilo very dangerous to American carriers. North Korea, China, India, Indonesia, Romania, Algeria, Vietnam and Iran have also bought Kilos. The main reason for purchasing Kilos is that they cost about half what equivalent Western subs go for.
After reading this news blurb, it made me wonder if there is a mad sea-faring race on Golorian that utilizes submarines in its bid to rule the planet.
If you have any stats or links to fantasy designs of such things, please post them. I'm jonesing for an adventure that has submarine-esque battles like the movie "Hunt for Red October". (A robot-whale would work too.)

From memory I remember a couple of Dungeon adventures that featured fantasy 'subs'.
One revolved around a dragon turtle sub filled with goblins.
The other revolved around a living construct type whale sub, I think the name Leviathon is ringing a bell.
As my memory is shot and I am no where near my Dungeon magazine collection, I think some one else might know adventure titles and issues.
While neither of these involved sub battles, they could do so with a bit work and imagination.
Edit: Didn't the old, but fantastic module 'A paladin in hell' feature a part with a submersible or diving bell?

D&D had a gnome built submarine...or was it wizard built? The Artefact of Kwalish was a Lobster/crab Submarine.
I have a better Plan. Why bother with subs when you can mine below the sea floor and create a cavity propped up with an intricate network of Columns and then kick a brick out of place and let the shallow sea drain into deep deep caverns - creating land bridges.
Imagine the effect of some empire deciding it can keep foreign ships out of it's waters simply by building a sea wall across the narrows of some gulf.
