Death to BP Executives...and by extension US Subcontractors, Workers, and Government Officials who cut corners, Put Profit over Quality and Saftey, and looked the other way
Well it was good enough for all the contractors on the second Death Star...

If human lives are lost as a result of the spill, sure I could see prosecution for manslaughter. Massive environmental destruction, imprisonment sounds awfully good.
11 people did die.
Edit: Dont really believe that death penalty would/could/ or should be used here though. There was no premeditation, for one thing. I think the best any prosecutor could hope for would be manslaughter and criminal negligence. Besides that, Its Brad Pitt, not anyone who really matters.

I wonder if that's the reason that Northern Britain (which is where the Gulf Streem ends up) hasn't had a summer this year
No, that's because a sentient squid race crashed landed in the Northern Atlantic and, in order to survive, had to adjust the surrounding ecosystem to more closely match that of their homeworld. Once they've repaired their ship and departed, things should go back to normal.
At least until they return with a fleet of interstellar war ships.......

Grrr, for the 1000th time. We *did* have a summer. At the same time as we have every year for the last 10, late May through June. We then had the normal Late June-Jully-August rains,a dn should get another couple of weeks of sun sometime in Spet. Then into the nice rainy Autumn, and a clear, cold, not snowy enough winter.
As a person in the "hose-pipe ban" region, I'm only half joking. :D

Destroy? No. Damage? Yes. People rarely understand just how capable the ecosystem is to respond to change, and how little we as humans can truly effect it. That doesn't mean we can't effect it at all, nor does it mean we shouldn't try to minimize our effect, but to think we are capable of destroying something like the entire gulf with an oil spill is a bit extreme.

I hate to say it, but I agree. Nature is far, far more adaptable and powerful that we give it credit for. This isn't to say they shouldn't pay for what they did, but I don't think the earth is going to collide with the sun any time soon.

Wow, seriously? It's a quote he made in a documentary Spike Lee filmed about the oil spill. How much context do you really need?
Jesus, even that bulwark of centralism and fair reporting, HuffPo, has an article about this. I'm sure he was being a little sarcastic, maybe even a tad facetious, but then, considering how epically moronic most Hollywood actors and actresses are these days (cue: anyone who thinks Chavez is a great guy), who knows.

It's a documentary Spike Lee made. 'Nuff said.

Doesn't matter. You two are going on like it was taken out of context. Just get used to Hollywood types being idiots. It's easier that way, trust me.

Oh don't get me wrong- I'm used to Pitt saying stupid stuff. He's an amazingly talented actor, but I think he's a little..ah..strange on certain topics. I just know Spike Lee's documentary work, and he's not above choosing the most inflammatory thing you said on an issue and tossing it in. Then again, it IS a documentary...

"I was never for the death penalty before. I am willing to look at it again."
Eqates to "Brad Pitt calls for death penalty over oil spill"? You guys must really think I pee on the carpet too? Jeesh.
He was asked, directly, for a documentary about the oil spill, what he thought of the situation. What other conclusion are people supposed to come to, oh bladder challenged one?

Considering he has also made statements in support of Hugo Chavez in the past, I just assume he's a moron.

I am not familiar with the statements he made (…and honestly, I do not care). I do not know who Hugo Chavez is (does that qualify me as a moron too?). I can not speak to Brad's intelligence.
Considering the link provided, I am willing to give Brad the benefit of the doubt and take away that he is angry about the spill. Beyond that, it is not important enough for me to speculate.
People say stupid stuff all the time. I have been known to do it myself.

There was no premeditation, for one thing.
Not necessarily true. After the loss of life at the Texas City refinery (15 dead and 170 injured, resulting from similar "safety failures"), one could argue that BP knew without any reasonable margin of doubt that loss of life would eventually occur again if production was put ahead of safety in the hierarchy of corporate values.
Brad Pitt is still an idiot, though.

I know without any reasonable margin of doubt that MANY people will die in automobile accidents. But you don't see me going out and advocating that the CEOs and Board of Directors of major automobile companies be put to death.
Stuff happens. The world currently NEEDS petroleum. I'm not saying that we shouldn't hold BP accountable, but at the same time a full on crucification isn't necessary.

Your analogy is a poor one; look at BP's competition, who DO put safety first, and who also lack large-scale killings in recent times. Put away the broad brush: BP is responsible, not "oil." So a better analogy would be "I know that THIS PARTICULAR CAR explodes in a 5 mph fender-bender, whereas the others do not... and the manufacturer knows it, too, but that's OK, because we need cars."
Put to death? No. Put out to pasture without billion-dollar golden parachutes? Yes, that would not be unreasonable. Otherwise they'll likely just do the same thing yet again.

Wow, that's just...dumb.
Even if I supported the death penalty (which I don't), BP execs don't deserve it. If wrong-doing can be proven (good luck), then jail time, maybe.
Hey, now. You do realize you're disagreeing with an actor? I mean, not just a normal person like you or me, but one of the chosen, the uplifted, the screenworthy?
And then, of course, Brad Pitt is not even *just* an actor—he's an actor who has been on the cover of every magazine at the checkout stand for ten years running; an actor who has the ear of The Oprah. I'm surprised his every word isn't automatically law by now. At least the world has the decency to ensure that every time he dates another of the elevated screenworthy, that relationship helps to redefine the very language by introducing all-new words like "Brangelina."
I mean, the guy can look good while reciting words that other people have written while somebody points a camera at him and pays him millions of dollars. If that doesn't prove to you that he's clearly always right in all things, I... well, I guess I must weep for your soul.
At least, until a tape surfaces of him eating a hamburger off the floor in a drunken stupor or cursing out his wife. At that point, he can be safely ignored again.

The world has alternative fuel sources that the oil industry has a choke hold on. No, we don't NEED petroleum. We are dependant on them for it because it is the only source of fuel they are allowing us to have.
"NEED" is only applicable when there are no viable alternatives. There are.

~shrugs~ On this I sort of agree with you. The problem is turning the alternative fuel sources into a viable alternative to oil. My bet is electric vehicles. The one problem is development. Also, that just moves the oil "food chain" up a level or two. IMHO, we need to funnel several BILLIONS into Fusion research. We also need to put solar pannels in many more areas than we do already.
