or example, I see the Alchemist gets Analyze Dweomer and Arcane Sight, but no Detect Magic? Was it because the class would remain aloof to divining magical auras until a later level due to their focus on alchemy and not magic as a whole?
Just to comment on this real fast, I'd say your theory is right on the money, since they can use detect magic, kinda, but only for potions - and it's a mundane ability, not a spell effect, anyway. (They use Craft [Alchemy] rather than Spellcraft; the ability is mentioned in their Alchemy class ability.) So yeah, I think you're on the nose: they can work with potions, but wands or magical belts? Not really their bag.

You know, continued hammering of this point won't get the guidelines added to an already printed product. It may, however cause James & Co. to not make comments about the content of upcoming products. I for one would really rather not see that happen.
This. The developers have explained why it didn't get put into the APG and said it will almost certainly be put into UM. What more do you really want? It's not like this is something that can have absolutely concrete rules anyway.

Fair enough, Wolfthulu. Perhaps I was being overly sensitive/defensive. If that wasn't directed at me, I apologize.
I wouldn't apologize, I honestly think I may be one of those five as well, I love paizo and I love their products and have been faithfully buying since before they even announced their intent to publish their own edition. But I've gotten into it with James a number of times about things that I didn't like for whatever reasons. In fact off the top of my head I can think of the oracle name, stat blocks in companions, rules on the garotte (although I think that was actually sean K reynolds). Where we were directly responding to each others quotes. I may be completely wrong and self centered to think that I'm one of the 5, but I do tell them frequently when something is done that I don't like. The fact that they respond and at least let me know why they did or didn't do something that makes me stick around.
That said, I think sometimes those of us who believe expressing our dislikes is a good thing may take it a little too far after the paizo staff has come in and defended their decision, showing appreciation for that is important, and sometimes we get caught up and forget too. But I understood where you were coming from and why you were defensive even if neither of us were the intended targets of that comment (giving it a specific # certainly reminds me of the song "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you. don't you? don't you" :P )

A greatly appreciated sentiment LKL. Thanks!

Hey Lastknightleft - you actually were not one of the small handful of people I was talking about. I don't think anyone has a problem with people expressing opionions or even letting the powers that be at Paizo know when we don't like something. That's a valid healthy way to communicate. What I (and I feel pretty safe in saying most others) are getting really sick and tired of are those same few toxic people who get obnoxious, rude and self righteously indignant about things and then, even after James or Jason or whomever comes on and explains the reason they simply refuse to accept but instead get even more rude and obnoxious.
These are those couple people that, as soon as you see them jump in a thread, you just know they are going to bully everyone and pretty much derail the thread with their rude and angry crap.
It just gets so old!
Oh and well said concerning you comment above - I wish more people would remember it!
