Brothers - our times coming... think the Orcs of Golarion will open a few eyes [and jugulars] into how damn nasty we are and the iconics [assassin and inquisitor] is a step in the right direction... looking forward to the stats and backstory myself, but as Fyre says, no-one's talking...
As for the puppy - dibs on its plums... I'm needing a new coin pouch!

I think the only PRC 'iconic' that has any details published is that damned half-elf, Seltyiel. You know the Eldritch Knight guy.
Though, our lovely Inquisitor should be getting some details soon.
Figures it would be a !@#$ing Elf before one of our comrades! Paizo! We demand more love for the Uglies, damn your pointy-eared fetishes to the bottom of the Gods' Thunderbox!

Agreed. Hoping it's a somewhat tragic past for the Assassin. Nothing makes an enemy like one that you can't help but cheer for. Make him an Assassin that kills only 'worthy' targets, such as corrupt priests and officials and the like, tributes to a fellow orphan that suffered continuous assaults at the hands of a corrupt priest that was running the orphanage, whom was never caught because of the politics involved.
Nothing like the bad guy that makes the Paladin feel bad for smiting him. And the Inquisitor Half-Orc ... mmmm she can give me an interrogation any day ... wait, why is she pulling out the pliers ... oh sh-! *sound of a heavy metal door slamming as he's pulled away into a sound-proofed room by said Inquisitor*

We have no plans on developing the characters illustrated for the prestige classes into iconic characters. We already have 17 iconics, with an 18th on the way with Ultimate Magic's magus class; one of the main values of an iconic character is to provide a recognizable character to represent a brand, and if you do too many of them, it waters things down. I actually worry that 18 is already too many.
Seltyiel got in as an iconic not because he's an eldritch knight, but because he's the iconic "multiclass" character—fighter/wizard being the most well-known and popular multiclass combo through the last 30 years.
So, we'll be building up the six new iconics from the APG over the next several months, but won't be doing anything with the prestige class characters.

Maybe not as official Iconics, but that would be a neat contest to create stats for each of them. :D

You know, I wonder if the illustrations could be basis of a new product similar to the NPC Guide, ala "Illustrated Characters Come Alive! The History (and stats) of the various non-iconic NPCs used throughout Paizo products". (Title would need to be shorten.) I know I'd buy it, especially if any are ever used in the Pathfinder fiction line (hint hint).

Have I missed something, or isn't the magus role the "fighter/wizard", so will Selyiel become a Magus going forward?

Although Magus will fill a similar role to fighter/wizard/eldritch knight, I don't think that they will be changing Seltyiel to me it. I also believe that Paizo can do something that won't make that combo obsolete with this class..

It's possible, it just seems to make more sense to me to have iconics of all of the base classes, and miss the "iconic multiclass" than to have all bar one of the base classes, but keep the multiclass. Especially when the multiclass has always been built as a fighter/wizard anyway....

Very unlikely that they would change him. The Eldritch Knight is 'Core' and Seltyiel is used in the Iconic lineups for the APs and modules. The Magus base class won't be considered 'core' just like the APG classes aren't. At some point when asked if the new 'base' classes would be used as pregens in future modules or APs the answer was basically, 'No, we assume that people are using the core book alone, that way anyone can use the the pregens we provide. Anything used from another source (Inquisitor or Magus) would require a complete version included in the product so that core book only folks could still use it.'
So, Seltyiel will probably stay F/W/EK.

I hadn't realised the EK was core (show's how often I look at prestige classes :) ) or that they used that when stating him up to higher levels.
From the modules POV you're probably spot on.

J.J., quick question, nobody at Paizo HQ would mind the fans making up non-cannon backstories for this character in these forums, would they? Obviously statements such as 'we own jack sheet about this character' to avoid the notoriously clingy legal webs, perhaps?
*offers Celestial Puppy eyes*
This would technically fall under the category of fan-fiction. Which, according to our community use page, is indeed cool with us!

On his sixth year, Tsadok and Emerelda found the dark secret of the Orphanage, that Marcus Envodin was part of an underground slave-ring, and most loathsome of all, was that Marcus sold children to clients with foul and abominable tastes. When the children were discovered, Marcus proved himself to be just as vile, savagely raping Emerelda in front of Tsadok and promising to kill her before the young Half-Orc’s eyes if either spoke of the deeds that they had witnessed in the hidden chambers under the Orphanage.
For almost a year the nightmare continued, Emerelda called up at night to be brutalized, and Tsadok unable to speak out or fight back for fear of his ‘sister’ being slain. Eventually, Emerelda forced the issue by concealing a note inside her dress and hanging herself from a balcony stairwell. When the authorities found the note, however, before Tsadok’s unbelieving eyes, the Guardsmen burned the note and pretended it was just a tragic suicide, unwilling to believe a valiant Taldoran nobleman would stoop to such crimes. Convinced that Humanity, and the Taldans especially, could not be trusted, Tsadok ran away, ironicly missing by a matter of minutes a Paladin of Sarenrae whom could sense the evil cloaking the vile noble like a second skin, but who also found himself unable to bring charges to bear or investigate further as several corrupt officials, also members of the underground slave ring, effectively barred anyone from investigating the ‘slanderous lies of an obviously damaged young girl’ to any real effect.
For several years, Tsadok lived a cruel, heartless existence as he wandered further and farther away from the wretched city of his childhood, finding employment with several groups of brigands and thugs, finding in each group more and more reasons to hate Mankind. Finally, he stumbled across a lone Human, and thinking the man easy prey, attacked as he always had, only to find himself on the ground with a slender blade at his throat. Tsadok had found a freelance Assassin, a Chelaxian Assassin who had once trained under the Infernal masters of an Asmodean Temple. On a whim, the Assassin took Tsadok under his wing and trained him, turning the Half-Orc from a crude weapon of hate into a lethal, cold-blooded sword. On the day he was released from his training, and servitude, the Assassin gave to Tsadok a black-feathered, red-breasted Eagle, a magical sword that had once belonged to the Assassin in his younger days, and the agreement that if Tsadok could not slay fifty well-protected and powerful people within the space of a year, the Assassin would in turn hunt down and kill his apprentice.
Now armed with the skills to make his vengeance a reality, Tsadok returns to the city of his birth, looking to find, and slay, every last man and woman who was part of that slave ring, and is planning on saving Marcus Envodin for last, a sacrifice to avenge every victim of the vile Nobleman and to put his ‘sister’s’ grieving soul to rest after all these years.
Even if the PCs stumble across undeniable proof of Marvus Envodin's crimes, the tight web of Taldan racial loyalty and snobbery towards the other races of Humans should make it all but impossible to bring true charges to bear. Do the PCs look away and allow the Half-Breed to slaughter these men and women, even if they are foul and corrupt, they are still living beings and thus a Good or Lawful character, let alone a Paladin of any creed. should be tormented by their choices. Tsadok isn't irredeemable, but his obsession with vengeance and justice clouds his judgement and with every murder he commits, the Half-Orc slides closer and closer to eternal damnation even as he remains convicned that his cause is righteous and just.
Also, the Paladin who tried to bring justice to the dead orphan girl is still around, having discovered the truth of both the would-be Assassin and the men and women Tsadok strives to kill, and could become either an ally or another foe for the PCs, depending upon the stances they take. And the Chelaxian Assassin is also waiting in the wings, studying his apprentice and possibly aiding or hindering, as the whim strikes him. In trust, the Chelaxian Assassin could be a Half-Fiend Monk, a Martial Cleric, a Shape-Changed Devil or even a minor avatar of Asmodeus himself, grooming the Half-Orc to become the leader of a covert assassination unit for the Arch-Fiend to send against those who break contracts with his faith or encroach upon his plans.

I made the Half-Orc a Ranger for a challenge, but when I get some time, I'll stat him up as a 5th level Rogue, and then as a 5th level Ranger (or Rogue) / 10th level Assassin. Heeeeeeee! Again, do NOT read the Backstory unless you are comfortable with confronting mature, and quite frankly disturbing plot-twists.

Definitely dark. Just one observation.

Agreed. Dropping it to 15-20 is a bit more achievable, considering how many opponents Tsadok will be facing.
Furthermore .... facepalm I forgot to add the Assassin level to mix. Gaaaaaah. I'm gearing the character by looking at the Iconic Assassin picture and gearing him off that, 6 daggers, 2 shortswords, 1 longer-hafted/handled weapon and a light crossbow, plus a metal faceplate, tattered black cloak and black studded leather armor.
Should I re-write his backstory to be more PG 13 and alude to the start of it all or leave it dark and gritty?

Well, since it's 'fanfic', I'd make it what you're comfortable with. I 'personally' think it's a little too dark, but not so much that I wouldn't use it as written. (Depending on the players at my table.) If it bothers someone that much, they can always come up with an alternate version.

With Survival, the Assassin is able to harvest poisons from spiders, centipedes and other vermin in an urban region, and the high Craft skill allows for the Assassin to create his own in a pinch. Disguise skill, combined with his Mask of Disguise, allows the Assassin to slip in and out of dangerous areas without revealing himself (Will the PCs stop and accost the maid who runs down the stairs screaming about a murder, which is in fact the Assassin himself?) An array of Talking Skills allows the Assassin to either coax information out of people or threaten them into submission and with the Linguistics skill, not only does the Half-Orc assassin possess some nice vocal abilities, Orcish, Common, +2 Languages from High Intellect +1 from Linquistics, but the Assasin has a chance of intercepting coded messages from his targets as well as encrypting his own messages/orders.
Funds wise, most of what the PCs could 'get' from this character is his gear, but it also makes the Assassin quite potent in a variety of arenas, and partner him up with some low-level mercenaries, 2-3rd level Warriors and the like, and you have an up-and-coming figure in the criminal underworld or a talented 'Blade-for-Hire'. At higher levels, would probably want to have a ring or amulet that provides the Assassin with a Undetectable Alignment 1/day and the mask possibly upgraded to include a Detect Scrying enchantment as well as a potential socket for a Ioun Stone. A ring of Protection as well as a Rope of Climbing, Boots of Springing and Striding, swap the Cloak of Resistance out for a Vest and replace the cloak with a Cape of the Mountebank, up the two Shortswords to +3, turn the Daggers into +1 Returning Daggers and the Crossbow into a Seeking Version for that handy first round of surprise combat if the Death Attack isn't an option due to terrain or placements. Ring of Invisibility is, of course, a must, and perhaps Boots of Spider Climbing (As Slippers of Spider Climbing) would also be handy, possibly coupling them with a Longspear to make a Death Attack from the ceiling while invisible, and with reach.

HalfOrcHeavyMetal wrote:This would technically fall under the category of fan-fiction. Which, according to our community use page, is indeed cool with us!J.J., quick question, nobody at Paizo HQ would mind the fans making up non-cannon backstories for this character in these forums, would they? Obviously statements such as 'we own jack sheet about this character' to avoid the notoriously clingy legal webs, perhaps?

Wow, I didn't even know this existed on the site. But it's nice to know if I ever want to do some Pathfinder fanfic myself.
Myself, if anyone ever did anything with the "Iconic" Duelist, Pathfinder Chronicler, and/or Shadowdancer, I'd love to read it.

HalfOrcHeavyMetal, Nice background I like the dark story creating nasty villian whom you can relate too and have a sense of if life had given him different choices perhaps he may have come out a little different. Sympathy for the Devil and all that bit.
I like the build as well: one question on the stats why go 15 CON? why not 13 con, 15 Int and 14 dex and use the int modifier or same for dex if you wanted it higher? Just because the Int is so important to the Death attack as well as bonus spells. I am just curious.
I love the steel mask that acts as a hat of disguise going to steal that one for my own campaign. I always like the dagger of venom route as well I know it is over used but useful.
