I GM games using Skype and TTopRPG. It has been working out pretty good so far. Combat actually runs much faster than an actual tabletop because each player sets up dice macros and never has to worry about adding rolls.
I also am a player in a play by post environment at www.macrayskeep.com The play by post goes a little long so you pretty much have to have a single character dedicated to that setting but it gives you a little more room to roleplay your character.
It a nice way to get together and play with friends that are spread out. The Skype game is Wisconsin, Alberta Canada, Washington and Arizona for the four players

There are several PFS pbps running on this site, but yeah it probably takes about 3 months for a scenario give or take so your character is locked in during that duration.
