We have finally (only took us 11 months...) completed the errata for The Book of Arcane Magic. The product has been updated at DriveThruRPG, Your Games Now and of course here at Paizo.com. If you have previously purchased the product at any of those three locations, you should soon get an e-mail that the files have been updated and you can download the errata.
In addition, we will make the errata available for download via our website very soon.
Thanks!

Very good changes to the spells and items. Changing the untyped bonuses to typed ones cuts down on the power of the spells but still leaves them useful. I still have the problem of a fire elemental wizard being a graduate/post graduate of the Vanguard Academy of Magic and getting an extra evocation spell in addition to their extra fire spell per level. Based on the color text in Paths of Power this would be rare to unheard of but possible.

I'd say that would be up to your GM's discretion, but keep in mind that Elemental Wizards are far more primal in nature, focusing on the nature of the magic, rather than the form or methodology. Fire is Fire, whether conjured or evoked. Formal instruction in a classroom setting would be very difficult and uncomfortable for such a wizard, and in fact a lot of lessons wouldn't apply because they approach magic from a different point of view. More important than that, though, is that elemental wizards don't use Evocation spells, they use Fire spells. Since none of the Universities offer bonuses to Elemental spells, I don't believe they would apply - but Rob can correct me if I'm wrong. I mean, yes, for purposes of resistence or interacting with standard mechanics, the spells have their usual type, as listed, but since their magic isn't organized by schools like evocation and illusion and so forth, a bonus spell from a school they don't use seems like a non-issue.

What it comes down to is that, ultimately, a Fire Elementalist that was a graduate of Vanguard Academy would get that bonus Evocation spell, because Evocation does not automatically mean a fiery spell (magic missile, anyone?), and any Evocation spell that happens to fall into the Water element (which is the opposition element for Fire) would be automatically prohibited to the wizard.
By the way, this issue wasn't addressed in the BoAM errata because it is actually more appropriate for the Paths of Power errata (which we are working on).
Ultimately, as Sean says, it's up to the GM, too. While officially, the bonus from the Vanguard Academy would apply, in the game I run I most likely would not let a Vanguard graduate be a Fire elementalist to begin with, because, again as Sean points out, Fire elementalists are more primal in nature and thus unlikely to be taught in a formal setting.

Will have to reDL this and take a look at the changes.
Major changes are in specifying the bonus type from several spells, minor corrections to the familiars to bring the statblock appearances more in line with Bestiary statblocks, and correcting most of the magic item costs, which were off in most cases (badly in many, unfortunately).

Just DLed it, will check it out later. Cool that you guys are going back to fix stuff. Might cause me to have to revisit my review.
We should have gotten around to it sooner than this, but too many other things got in the way. Just put it in the "better-late-than-never" category. :)
