Trait - extra skill point?

Homebrew and House Rules

Is this too powerful for a trait?

Studied - You may not take a bonus skill point from your preferred class. Instead, every level you receive one bonus skill point.

Over 20 levels its pretty powerful but....

20 skills points over 20 levels isn't that powerful, however it is a bit more powerful than most of the other traits. A flat bonus might be better say 3 or 4. That a nice bump for a fighter or a cleric without stepping on the more skill heavy classes.

It is a little restrained by denying the user a second possible bonus skill point.

This trait may only be taken once.

You don't need this disclaimer since traits can never be taken more than once. In fact, you're not even allowed multiple traits from the same category.

I think it might be a little too much though, because it becomes an almost no-brainer for any character looking to multiclass.

The Exchange

Big Eyes Small Mouths D20 did something similar. IIRC You had a feat that gave you a +1 to a stat. 5 Skill points could be used to buy a feat. You had a feat that allowed you to gain 5 Skill points. Anytime you gained a +1 to a stat you could use it to purchase either a feat or 5 skill points.

It probably is. A trait is suppose to balance out around 1/2 a feat. Look at the skill based feats. You have the duel skills which give you up to 8 skill points. Or the single skills which get you up to 6. Granted those get you up over the rank/level cap which is a big plus. But 20 is a lot more than 8.

If a player requested this I think a flat 4 skill points is what I would give. And that balances rather nicely with the other traits that give +1 and make it a class skill, effectively +4.

Liberty's Edge

This is way too powerful for a trait. Treated optimally, this could give up to (head math...) 80 points of bonus for skills. Yes i know that is damatic but in any case the most a feat gives in terms of a bonus to any skills is 12 bonus divided up between 2 specific skills.

Also given that with this the character essentially get both the skill point and hit point advantage from favored class, and one of them he gets even if he DOESN'T level in that class.

Nix this altogether, if you want something like this, make it a feat CHAIN, require them to get all of the skill pump feats and give this to them as an achievement feat.
