d20 Future Star Trek Rules

Liberty's Edge

Ever since the release of the 2009 Star Trek movie, I've been thinking of running a Star Trek RPG. Unfortuneately, none of the "official" star trek rules systems seems as easy or as adaptable as the d20 system.

With that in mind, I've been thinking of ways of adapting the d20 Future rules to capture the feel and options of the Star Trek Universe. Here's what I came up with so far for a game set in the 23rd century...

Technological Options:

Base Progress Level of 8

Phasers: Miniaturized (Small Size) Disintegrator (3d8 dmg) with a Stun Module (Fort DC 15)

Phaser Rifle: Disintegrator (3d8 dmg) with a Stun Module (Fort DC 18)

Transporter: Transport Disk

Tricorders: Multiple Use Item (Mechanicomp Sensor and Electricomp Sensor)

Medical Tricorder: Medicomp Sensor

Starships:

As a general rule of thumb, Starfleet ships are equipped with phasers (Maser cannons) and photon torpedoes (Starload missiles). Alien starships may be equipped with more esoteric weapons as the campaign dictates.

Most ships in D20 Future can be converted for use in a Star Trek campaign. For example, the USS ENTERPRISE is a standard Cruiser with Maser Cannons, Starload Missiles, a Tractor Beam, and a Particle Field to represent shields.

Player and Character Options:

Starfleet Character Starting Occupations:

Command Officers: White Collar
Operations Officers (Engineers, etc.): Technician
Science Officers: Technician or Academic
Security Officers: Law Enforcement or Military
Medical Officers: Doctor or Emergency Services
Pilots and Navigators: Military or Transporter

In addition, the Astronaut Trainee profession is suitable for pretty much any Starfleet career except command officers.

Obviously as characters advance in level and rank, they may take any position in Starfleet the DM assigns. These rules are for 1st level characters.

That's all have so far. I'm working on rules for character races and and a system to represent rank.

The Starfleet d20 ranking system.

Okay. Here's what I came up with for player ranks.

Each Starfleet character in a d20 Star Trek game has a rank score. The score can be improved in two ways:

For every rank the character has in the Profession skill, the character has 1 point of rank.

Selecting the Promotion feat (see below) improves the character's rank by 6 points.

Rank Score and Corresponding Starfleet Rank

0 Midshipman or Noncommissioned Officer
1-2 Ensign
3-4 Lieutenant (j.g.)
5-6 Lieutenant
7-8 Lieutenant Commander
9-10 Commander
11-12 Captain
13-14 Commodore
15-16 Fleet Captain or Rear Admiral
17-18 Vice Admiral
19-20 Admiral
21-22 Fleet Admiral

New Feat

Promotion [General]
Starfleet has recognized your command ability and advanced you up in the ranks.
Benefit: You gain +6 to your Rank Score.
Special: A character may gain this feat multiple times. Its effects stack.

Edit:

The rank progression should read

11-12 Captain
13-14 Fleet Captain
15-16 Commodore
17-18 Admiral
19-20 Fleet Admiral

This better reflects the ranking structures around the time of the Original Series

Of course, to properly represent Security Officers, you need this suppliment.

I had not. But I'm VERY intrigued now.
