Elven High Magic- Circles?

3.5/d20/OGL

I remember a mechanic from Forgotten Realms that makes it easier for Elven High Mages to cast spells, involving circles of individuals w/ elvish blood. I cannot remember for the life of me where to find it. Anybody know? Thank you!

From what I remember it was a feat or process in the 3.0 version of the main Forgotten Realms book. You might want to look there. I think they also put it in the Player's Guide to Faerun if you have that. I'll check it out later and post for you.

The circle magic mechanic in the FRCS allows a member of a specific prestige class to lead a 'circle' of spellcasters with some specific feat (Tattoo Focus for Red Wizards, Hathran for Rashemi Witches) over the course of one hour. Each of the lesser spellcasters expends a prepared spell, and the spell levels of each of those spells is then available as a series of bonuses for the higher level caster for the next 24 hours, increasing his caster level for spell effects or spell penetration, or being able to be used to pay for metamagic costs.

I don't have whatever book details an elven variation, but I'd expect that it works similarly, requiring someone with levels in an 'Elven High Mage' prestige class, and, if it's consistent, a group of arcanists with some specific 'initiation' type feat.

OTOH, I'm gonna speculate that Elven High Mage is a higher level PrC than Red Wizard or Rashemi Witch, and might be able to tap into circle magic with any group of elven arcanists, and not just those who have used a feat to become initiated... If a 5th level Wizard can become a Red Wizard, but one has to be 10th level to be an Elven High Mage, it would make some sense that the Elven High Mage might not be as restricted as the Red Wizard, when it comes to Circle Magic.

On the other, other hand, that's just speculation, and the FRCS rules require a 4th or 5th level Rashemi Witch or Red Wizard to lead a circle (so a 10th level character, overall, since a Rashemi needs 6 levels pre-PrC and a Red Wizard needs 5 levels pre-PrC). If the 'Elven High Mage' gains access to 'elven circle magic' at 1st level in the PrC, he might not warrant having any special perks over the Rashemi / Red Wizard...

Elven High mage is an epic level class for 3.0 or 3.5. You need to be a lvl 22 wizzard or sorcerer to qualify. The book you are looking for is Races of Fearun. Elven High magic is in 3 edition a special form of Epic Spellcasting and in the lore of the setting it would mean that they use the rule that other spellcasters can expend spellslots to lower the spellcraft DC of the Epic Spell. Since Elven High magic is usual used for Mythals the size of a city and other magical feats of a simulair size with a base Spellcraft of around 300 they need a lot of other spellcasters to lower this.

Elven Spell Lore Int 17 or elf, Knowledge (arcana) 12 ranks Bonus on dispel attempts, alter energy type of spell

This is the only feat I could find...
