Without quarter or the slightest mercy Lucian strikes down the fleeing thug.

Power Attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 5) + 9 = 18

Lucian runs his sword through the man, who collapses dead onto the dirty floor. Below, Bear's opponent drops his sword and begs for mercy. As it turns out, Bear only understands the words of his little master Tayllon. So it gobbles the thug up, savoring every meaty chew.

As suddenly as the battle began, it ends. Outside, the remaining gangsters flee into the Cairnlands.

The upper level of the tower was once a platform for the siege tower. There is a short gangplank that leads out into thin air. The coast can be seen clearly from here. Scattered about the room are lanterns with glass coverings of different colors. There is also a desk with a book and a scrap of paper.

Male Human Rogue 2

Derryn limps over to the table and, with care taken to not bleed on anything, looks over the scrap of paper and the book to see if he can figure out the combination of lights for sending away the undead.

"Someone git Yargos in 'ere. We might need 'is 'elp with this."

Tayllon goes on a healing spree...

Self 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Derryn 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Derryn 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Bear 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bear 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Bear 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Male Human Paladin 2

Keiran examines the book and the scrap of paper, to see if he can puzzle anything out from them. He was determined to be of some use during this enterprise.

Knowledge (religion) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

"So what's it say Keiran?" asks Lucian as he casually cleans the blood from his blade

The book is in antiquated common and is hard to decipher. The scrap of parchment is recently written, and is a sequence of lamp signals to call off the 'Silent Tide'.

Keiran says, "I think we may be able to stop this. From what I can understand here, if we follow this sequence, we'll call off the 'Silent Tide'."

Does Keiran understand it well enough to explain the sequence? If he does, then he instructs the party on what to do.

Yes.

Male Halfling Druid 2

I thought I should inform you all that both of my computers are riddled with viruses and I will likely end up having to do a clean install of windows. I'm pretty busy with work and have to do that in my free time, so just in case I disappear for a couple of days now you know why. Tayllon will obediently follow any instructions to the best of his ability.

Lucian picks up one of the lanterns from the table, studying it. "Then tell us what to do"

Following the instructions on the parchment, you help light the lamps and hold it out of the gangway in the specified sequence. In the distance there is a late-morning fog which has been steadily creeping out from the bay into the city. Suddenly it halts and retreats, quickly dissipating into nothingness.

"Well, That looks promising. Well done. So, now what?"

Male Human Rogue 2

"Are the taverns open yet?"

"Haha..I like the way you think. I'll buy!" laughs Lucian

Male Human Paladin 2

Keiran picks up the tome. "I think we need to get this into safe keeping, and see what's become of Yargos," he suggests.

You and your weary companions leave the tower and begin the short hike back into the city. It is afternoon by the time you reach the flooded streets of the Puddles district. The folk there are perfectly unaware of the supernatural disaster you have saved them from.

You meet Yargos Gil in the very tavern he was abducted from last night. He is ecstatic to see you all.

"You did it! By the gods you did it! You saved all of Absalom from the Silent Tide!"

The barkeep looks knowingly at Yargos, as if he had a few too many drinks already.

Male Human Paladin 2

"The gods were with us in this endeavor," Keiran says, bowing his head. He knows his own part of this success was rather small.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon raises a tankard and toast their lost comrade Aimo. As he sets the mug down, bear half empties it with one swipe of his thick tongue.

Male Human Paladin 2

Keiran raises his pint as well in salute of Aimo. He sits deep in though for a few moments. "What do we do with the Tome now?" he asks. "Where is secure enough to keep it from such as Nessian?"

Male Human Rogue 2

"I don't see what good can come of lettin' it be. I say we burn the blasted thing and git it out of our hair fer good."

Yargos takes the book and goes over to a burning brazier. Reluctance painfully visible on his aged, weary face, he tosses it in.

"It was the most important thing I had ever discovered. But instead of doing any good, all that came of it was bad."

Male Halfling Druid 2

"Not all. We rid Absalom of Nessian's foolish games and put an end to the potential threat of this Silent Tide. There is balance in all things, a natural order that has been restored against an unnatural darkness."

Tayllon scowls at his empty tankard, and Bear gives him an innocent look.

The ruddy-faced barkeep interrupts the heroes' conversation.

"Well, I don't know what all this talk about tides and darkness is about, and I don't care. I just know you if you didn't save Yargos, my business would be ruined! Here, a round of free ale for you all!"
