Wow! Good thing I bought it when it was new..
Hmm. I think my local retailer still has some of the Rise of the Runelords books lying about. Maybe I should buy them all and sell them on ebay or something :)
You ought to show your local game store some love and post the website/ email/phoe/address on the forums so that people who don't have ROTR 1 can get one AND give your FLGS some $$. (And tell your FLGS that you are doing it, they might be REALLY appreciative.)
And yes, I already have a copy for myself.

Ok, so I was poking around Amazon.com and I saw that Rise of the Runelords: #1 is being listed for $1000 both used and new.
Soooo, what's up with that? Is it a collector's item?
I think others have noted that there are bots that post items on Amazon that use a rather dubious algorithm to suggest prices on items that aren't in print.

If anyone has $1,000 they're thinking of investing in a copy of RotR #1 just let me know. I'll sell you all six books and the player's guide for that price...near mint. I strongly suspect the OOP book prices on Amazon are just sellers hoping to fleece folks that don't do their research (Saga Edition Starships is going for a similar price but you can still, sometimes, find them in stores.)

Yeah I just finished running book one with my players, as I was using it I was trying my damnedest to keep it nice. I got lucky and managed to pick it up new with the players guide for $19 just a few months ago.
I'd be willing to sell it for $150, it's well treated and I'll get it signed for you by the author at Paizocon :)

The "automated posting" theory makes more sense to me. Note that it's (almost?) always $1000, never $850 or $1100.

Sweet! I can't wait for the RPG collector's bubble to burst like comic books did in the 90s. Wait.. what do you mean there's no collectors value in rpg products?
