Arcane Speak with Dead

Homebrew and House Rules

I have a hole in a character concept where an arcane caster can't speak with dead. Instead of just handwaving it does anyone know of existing 3.x rules for necromancers speaking with dead or keeping skulls to talk to?

It sounds reasonable and familiar but I can't remember a source.

Sigurd

Sovereign Court

Considered prcing into Pathfinder Savant to get it? Other than that I don't know. The Arcane Necromancer has always suffered, on account of most of the best necromanc stuff going to clerics only. A decent Necromancer without Desecrate is much harder.

Why not just research the spell for an 'arcane' version in game? Assuming your a wizard. One of my players for Children or Murder is doing just that as a Necromancer Wizard; attempting to create an arcane desecrate spell.
