"I think th'Cap'n is right'bout the arch'ry nest. It seems th'easiest to guard, if we're gonna stay. If not, we'd bes'get marchin' back t'tha minin' camp, but I'm not lookin' for'wrd t'tha walk, fer certain."
(Broccan will vote to stay in the archer's nest, but will comply with the majority if overruled.)
(To Edrukk)
"That spear look like th'throwin' kind'r the stabbin' kind?"
Canvy Mandrain

Canvy returns from the burial and disposal site, the sweat and reddish earth stuck to his brow from the heavy manual labor. His hair matted and dirty, his body aching and tired. He surveys the scene on his return, to see what has been done to prepare for the impending night. He sees Edrukk looking at a spear, mumbling words to his god and seeking divine inspiration. "People, c'mon we need to get ready for tonight, you all need to eat. If you want to have a fire for cooking, then we'll have to do it soon, once its done, we'll throw the ash and embers into that dry well. Get yourselves somewhere to bed down in the archers room, be ready, there's not much light left in this day. And we need a watch order too, any volunteers."
To Edrukk and Broccan, Canvy continues, "Well done, that was a good job well done dealing with the bodies. what a day eh? You don't know how good it feels to be back with some real warriors and fighters. I suggest we go down to the sea and clean ourselves in the morning, get rid of the stink of death and toil." His steely blue eyes sparkle in satisfaction as he puts his arms around his new found friends shoulders and looks smiling at their faces.
I assume its dusk and darkening when Canvy returns. I take it that from where the bodies were found and buried it is easy access to the sea, as you said some of he bodies were dragged away.
Do we want to discuss the watch order on the discussion thread, rather than in game?
Edrukk Thorvirgun
Edrukk looks at the grimy hand on his shoulder and looks at Canvy, but his expression remains neutral.
"Seein' as th' rest o' ye dinnae 'ave night sight like me 'r 'n orc, I'll take as much watch 's I can 'andle, but I need t' sleep 's much 's anyone. Since ye've elected yerself t' be 'n charge, 'ow 'bout ye tell us what ye think th' watch order should be?"
Canvy Mandrain

Canvy smiles at Edrukk's remarks, "No, I don't profess to be in charge, but old habits die hard. Those years in Forcastle Watch, when I made it up the ranks from soldier to Sargent, taught me a lot and a lot became habits. It's so strange but since that ill fated mission to Cairn Drathfell I sometimes forget all those things, but today its clear as clear can be. Anyway enough about that, its past. Lets get on with it, you have been more than competent in a fight, so I know we can rely on you. " With that Canvy offers his hand to Edrukk.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
Mollified, the dwarf grudgingly takes the man's hand in his grip. He grunts something unintelligible before moving over to a corner of the room and unrolls his bedroll. You know how a gruff fellow will acquiesce without being able to actually say so out loud? That's what I'm trying to convey here.
Black Tom
Alex looks incredulous. "You're staying here? Well, I'm not. Lady Luck spared me once and I'm not going to tempt her again. If you really want to get slaughtered by orcs it's your funeral, not mine. Thanks for the food, mate, but I'm off."
With that he turns to leave, with an air of disappointment.
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"Lad, walkin' back t' th' camp alone is n' safer 'an stayin' 'ere with allies. Stay 'ere, take a turn wit' watchin', 'n we will see ye safe back t' th' camp."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
I guess what he really said was, "Fine! Off wit' ye!"
Broccan Dunchad
"Lad, let me escort'ya back t'rhe minin' camp. Issnot safe t'be walkin' round these parts alone inna dark. I can hoofit back an' maybe get an' hour'r two a shut'eye aft'r. Or ye can camp withus, ann' I'llescortya inna mornin. I'd hate t'see y' endup dead after all 'is."

Canvy, reminds himself that its a dwarf he's talking to and tells himself 'Yep, we're friends, even though he don't know it himself, they was never that outgoing even in the company, but damn fine fighters.'
Canvy hearing the young lad, calls after him. "Hey lad, wait a while. If you're adamant to leave, you must have good reason. So before you go, can you tell us a bit more about the orcs here. You've been in hiding from them, what makes them more dangerous than those we have dealt with here? When you see them patrolling, what numbers are in the patrols? What time are the patrols? Do you know of a better hiding place, as you've been hiding here a while now? What places have you found to be safe?
You know Edrukk's right, you'd probably be safer staying with us than wandering outside at night. We're not just an expedition, some of us are trained fighters, others are trained to use magic. After all, we were hand picked by your friend Crommard who will be staying with us, as far as I know."
Do we know Crommard's relationship with Alex, would Cromard have told us during the time he's been here?
I so much wanted to say 'a crack force of elite fighters and mages'...:D
Diplomacy 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Black Tom
As far as Crommard is concerned Alex is just a porter. They have never really spoken.
Alex shrugs his shoulders. He seems to soften a bit: "Alright, just give me a crossbow, and I'll help you keep guard. I know how to use one of those. And I would love to put one between the eyes of those monsters." He obviously intends to stay awake all night. As the evening falls he climbs on top of one of the crumbling walls to get a better vantage point.
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan takes first watch, assuming the rotation as outlined in the Discussion Thread, and patrols depending on the following criteria:)
1.) If the group is camping in the courtyard, or outside the citadel: Broccan will set-up his tent, stowe his pack and other equipment, and begin a patrol route around the area. He will offer the use of his tent to anyone who does not wish to sleep in the open, advising them that the tent only sleeps two. If anyone accepts, he will sleep outside in the open when off guard duty. If not, he will make himself comfortable inside. He will sleep in his armor the Edurance feat allows him to do this without being fatigued and keep his weapons and shield within easy reach.
2.) If the group camps in the archery nest, he will forego setting up the tent, and position himself at the entryway to the room. After his shift, he will sleep as close to the entryway as possible, again, not removing his armor, and keeping his weapons and shield close to hand.
(to Alex)
"Lad, ye might wan'ta carry somethin' t'hand, in case an'orc getsin close."
(He offers the boy a couple of the orcish daggers)

Canvy offer advice to the first watch and Alex, "The emphasis of tonight must be to watch and act defensively, its better that our adversaries patrol without mishap and we only engage if spotted. Our goal is to be refreshed in the morning, not slaughtered at night."
Black Tom
I put up a suggested map here. You may adjust your positions if you like.
It is a little past two in the morning when trouble hits. Edrukk and Sanstree are on watch as you hear a twang from Alex's crossbow and then a muffled curse. "They are coming", Alex hisses, while you hear orcs screaming out in surprise.
Broccan and Canvy are either out of their armor ora are fatigued from sleeping in armor.
Time to roll for initiatives (and Perception checks to wake up).

Broccan stated that he is wearing his armor because his Endurance feat would allow him to do so without incurring fatigue.
Initiative 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Edrukk hisses back, "Lad, what 'n th' 'ells 'r ye doin'? If'n ye get one o' us killed 'cause ye fired 'at crossbow, I'm gonna be findin' a new 'n uncomfortable place t' be storin' it!"
Now that we have a map that's probably accurate, I have suggestions that are probably too late. We have our own ranged weapons plus half a dozen orcish crossbows. If they have to come through a 5' gap to reach us, we should have loaded the extra crossbows and set them down so there's no actions wasted loading them when the orcs come in. Then, we ready actions to fire as they shoot the gap.
Regardless, what's our lighting like? Will the humans need a Light spell to do anything or do we have some moonlight to work with? I'm assuming Alex's turn as a sniper answers that, but I wanted to check.
Edrukk would like to step beside the opening K11 and ready an action to strike the first orc through the gap using his greatsword. His plan is to hold that position and leave a firing lane for the others down row 11.
"Sanstree, lad, wake up th' others, starting wit' Broccan 'n Canvy 'n 'ave 'em get ready t' be shootin' along in front o' me 'ere or 'ave one o' 'em come up alongside me -- we'll be usin' th' wall as a third warrior, keepin' 'em 'n reach o' me blade." Gorum, I see ye wish more battle 'fore day 's done. May we bring ye more glory 'is night.
Broccan Dunchad
Perception Roll (to wake up): 1d20 ⇒ 7
I'm guessing that's not sufficient. Broccan apparently won't be waking on his own, at least not this round.
"Zzzz...hummm..rrr...zzzz."
Reminder: I have the Endurance feat, so I can sleep in scale mail (medium armor) without being fatigued, per PFCR.
Sanstree
Sanstree shakes the slumbering others and as loudly as he dares adds emphasis to his words
"Broccan, Canvy Erine tha orcs are near upon us!"
Can I assume that rested enough prior to watch to recover spells?
Initiative
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan eyes shoot open as Sanstree shakes him)
"Orcs? Orcs! I shou'da known th' swine wou' come fer us innanight."
(Broccan looks for a moment at his weapons and shield, considering)
"How close'r they, boy-o? Can we hitt'm at range'r shou'd I be grabbin' m'sword?"
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Tiana Twelvefingers
Tiana wakes up as she hears Alex's crossbow. She jumps to her feet while orienting herself quickly and getting ready for the fight. She then moves towards the orcs, obviously intending to hide somewhere.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Move to M8, hide, ready action to attack any orc who passes L7.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Black Tom
Sorry, missed the Endurance feat. Glad to see it finally useful. If you want any crossbows loaded that's fine with me. You haven't had time to regain spells but spell-like abilities like channeling and Storm burst have renewed.
The orcs go on 12, but they need a couple of rounds to get to you, so you can position yourselves wherever you want in the room.
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan rummages through his pack and pulls out his flask of alchemist fire. He hands it up to Alex on the wall.)
"Here, lad. Fling this 'at em. They'll be in fer a nasty su'prise! Whate'vr y'do, don' opennit first!"
Erine Wintyle
I'm almost completely useless right now, since I haven't managed to prepare new spells yet. I swear, next time I make a character he's going to have an 18 Strength and carry a greataxe.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Oh, good, I'm still sleeping. Now I don't have to go over my...about three options and decide what to do. :P
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"Wait I ken put a light spell on a crossbow bolt or put one here so we doona have to fightem orcs inna dark."
"If Ima quik I can put tha light inta tha hallway an make tha orcs easier fer us tah kell!"
"Aye, 'n ye remove all doubt as t' where we be 'idin'. 'old yer spell 'n deliver 't by bolt after 'ey 'ave found us."

Canvy blinks his eyes, his fingers rub the sleep out of the corners and he shakes his head, trying to remove the daze of a deep sleep. In a semi automaton state he reaches for his chain shirt. With the urgency of Broccan and Edrukk speaking and hearing the words 'orcs approaching', Canvy's head seems to clear of any slumbering thoughts. He picks up his scale mail lying next to his bed, but realizing he doesn't have time to put it on, sets in front of him as many fully loaded crossbows as he can. He calls to Erine, shakes her a bit to wake her and says "Wake up Erine, I've got a job for you. Can you reload these crossbows and pass me one so that I can continually fire at the green 'uns on their way here."

I'd like to apologise in advance for this, but she's tired, and already terrified of Canvy. What Goat does here is exactly is exactly what would happen. So on her turn (with a 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8 Init)...
"Aaaah! Goat! Goat!" Erine screams as Canvy touches her. The goat starts awake and tries to bite Canvy's ankle, but is still weary and his attack is blocked by the man's armor.Bite: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan picks up his shield and sword and runs to engage the orcs. I think that I can get next to Tiana at a run, but will not be able to attack until the next round, since it required an action to pick-up my shield and sword.)
"Hav'at me, y'greenskin'devils!"
Edrukk Thorvirgun
The dwarf puts out a hand as the human fighter makes to rushby. "Wait 'ere, lad! She knows what she's doin' 'n she'll be back 'n 'ere shortly. Stand 'ere by me 'n we'll make short work o' 'ese 'uns. Let 'er lead back t' us if'n she doesn't kill 'em all 'erself."
BT, please put Edrukk in K11. He would have told Sanstree to stay farther back from the door when he asked him to wake the others. I'm hoping Broccan adjusts his movement and stops in J11.
Broccan Dunchad
(Broccan stops, momentarily confused by Edrukk's barring of his movement)
"If y'sayso, Mast'r Edrukk. I'll stan' by ye, an' we'll fight'm togeth'r. I jus' hope th' lass dinna get'rsef kill'd."
Broccan stops at J11 as instructed.
Sanstree
Sanstree waits behind the others once the battle is joined he will cast light on a crossbow bolt which he will hand over to Erine and Canvy so that it can be fired into area with the orcs.
"Canvy Ive a crossbow bolt in mah hands when I hear tha battle I will put a light spell on it an yahs does yer best tah see it go between tha eyes o onea them orcs"
Tiana Twelvefingers
As the orcs advance, Tiana realizes she's not only alone and away from the safety of her friends, but also facing four orcs by herself, with not much ranged support. She quickly pierces at the first orc approaching, which is startled by her attack, but still misses.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13, Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3, Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 4.
She then moves to block the orcs from entering and pierces again at the same orc, shouting to her friends: "Fire at them!"
5 ft step to M7. Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18, Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4.
Black Tom
Tiana stabs the first orc to come through the opening twice, while Alex lobs the Alchemist's fire on the third orc, causing it to curse wildly. Unfortunately the resilient orc manages to retaliate before going down and Tiana is hit for 16 points of damage by the first two orcs. The other two move into position according to the map, the half-orc pronouncing a judgment of protection.

Canvy takes 3 damge from the goat, he's not wearing armor.
Initiative 1d20 ⇒ 9
Ignores the goat's bite, but blood pours from his leg wound. As he puts weight on his leg, it takes all his will power to continue standing. He shouts at Erine "Keep that goat under control, is he fighting for us or for them."
Canvy takes a crossbow and files at the orc. The bolt flies high and wide, embedding itself into the wall above the entrance where the orc is entering. Canvy turns to Erine and whoever else is close by, "Any of you able to fire a crossbow accurately, cos nows yer chance. If so take over firing the crossbow from me, so I can put my scale mail armor on."
If anyone takes the crossbow from Canvy, he will try and hastily don his scale mail armor.
Crossbow ranged attack 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 4 (includes the penalty for firing into combat).
Broccan Dunchad
Our locations appear to be slightly off. Edrukk should be at K11, and Broccan should be at J11, with row 10 being open for Cannvy to shoot down. Sanstree should be behind Broccan and back a bit on row 11, rather than next to the door, if I read the previous posts correctly.
(Assuming Edrukk strikes the orc in the entry with his readied action, Broccan will strike the orc if it doesn't fall. If Edrukk's bow slays it, he will instead charge the half-orc.)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 (add +2 more for charging if against half-orc)
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
"She's down! Th'lass'is down! We go'ta get'to'r!"
Edrukk Thorvirgun
"She's down! Th'lass'is down! We go'ta get'to'r!"
"Fool girl! I thought she was goin' t' be strikin' 'n retreatin'! Did she think she could take 'em all 'erself?"
Sorry, Badslacker, obviously misunderstood your intent. Not that it matters, but your sneak attack damage should have applied to both attacks since they were still flat-footed. And I think I caused some confusion with an incorrect position earlier, but Broccan's correct in what I had in mind with regards to our positions.
Readied Attack on L10 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13
"Fire the crossbows!"
Rattled by the apparent loss of the girl, Edrukk misjudges his swing as the orc stops and he deals damage to the fortress wall, but leaves his adversary unhurt.
Erine Wintyle
That would probably be Canvy.
Erine (who should definitely be awake by now) is up, then the orcs.
I think her being awake has already been established, yes.
Erine pats Goat. "Not much we can do, Goat."I go on full defence, and Goat readies an action to attack any who come after me.
Black Tom
Crommard cries out in surprise: "Sethus? Is that you?"
Broccan slashes at the orc, drawing blood. The orc sneers evilly as the half-orc casts a spell at Broccan forcing a Will save vs 15. The other orc throws a javelin and Alex lets out a muffled yelp of pain.
Broccan Dunchad
Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 20
(Bolstered by his rage, and concern for Tiana, Broccan steels himself against the half-orc's spell.)
"Y'll no' use yer foul sorc'ry on me, pig-man! But m'sword will fin'ditsway to yer gizzard!"
(Broccan lashes out with his sword at the orc before him, determined to cut him down and get to the half-orc beyond)
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Confirm Critical Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Broccan Dunchad
Crit Damage Die: 1d8 ⇒ 3 I don't recall if strength bonus is added, but if so, then +2.
15 points of damage puts Broccan at exactly 0, he is disabled, but still standing, unless you rule that he got sufficient sleep to get 1 hit point back, if so then he is at 1 hit point.
