Q & A about "The Failed Sanity Check"

PaizoCon General Discussion

Hi all,

I'm scheduled to run "The Failed Sanity Check", which uses the Don't Rest Your Head rules system at PaizoCon 2010. Im setting up this thread to answer any questions you might have about this event (within the limits of the mystery of the session). Fire away if you have questions.

we will need the dice groups meantioned, will we need to bring anything else?

any reccomended reading between now and the game?

All you need are the dice, but if you also have a copy of Don't Rest Your Head, that's helpful too. I am not using the default setting but plan to stick with the base rules of the game which are really simple.

I think part of my original description of the game got trimmed off, but I described it as 99% DRYH and 1% Lovecraft. Rereading some of HPLs major works might jazz you up a bit :-)

It begins with everyone having a case of amnesia, and a character pick based on pictures. Identity, ability, the guts of what make DRYH unfold over the course of the game.

Sounds interesting!

I have yet to see the game system at any of the book/gaming stores near me... need to do some research.

I would just like a clarification of the dice set you want us to bring. Would it be three standard sets of dice with individual colors. Or would it he three white dice, six black dice, and eight red dice.

If it is the different amounts of colored dice, would it just be different amounts of d6's or what.

As long as you groups of 3, 6 and 8, alternative colors are okay.

In Don't Rest Your Head, the dice are for...

3 = Discipline

6 = Exhaustion (a way to power a very special skill you are super awesome at, but only when "Awakened)

8 = Madness (usually to power a special "Madness" power, but also used to replace Discipline dice as your character gets a bit crazy)

BTW - Im going to post a link tomorrow to a downloadable PDF showing illustrations of the character pics.

I have some recommended viewing right here.

Failed Sanity Check Character List PDF

This is a set of seven images depicting character choices. I had an artist at my company put these together. Everyone starts in fine whites to start.

I like it, I'm thinking I'm more of a 489-I354 kinda guy, feel a bit of kinship there already.

Im glad you like them - they were done in Illustrator and saved to PDF, so you can zoom in and there's a good amount of detail there.

It will be interesting to see who gets "old crazy eyes" :-)

Scarab Sages

Hmmmm, I like both the old crazy guys but I am personally leaning more towards 689-8731.

His glasses seem extra creepy! :)
