Kingmaker Magnetic Map?

Product Discussion

Liberty's Edge

Last session we had a discussion about what to play after we finished RotRL. I told my players about Kingmaker and they totally jumped on it. While talking about that AP, we had the idea how cool a magnetic FlipMat would be, showing the Hexes of the whole AP, with small magnetic icons, to put into the explored hexes (like the ones on p.15 of Stolen Lands for example). Of course, they should be small enough to put at least two of them into a single hex - and a party-icon should be there as well, to show where the pcs are.
But, magnetic FlipMats can't be folded and so shipping would not be an option. But then we came upon those tact-tiles... And I also know a website where you can make your own tact-tiles.
But how cool would such a product be if Paizo would make it?! You could put it on the wall in between sessions, have it on the gametable during sessions, and the players could put those icons on the magnetic tact-tiles.

Oh well, I am just dreaming...

The Exchange

If you are a 'do it yourself' kind of person, you can get sheets of magnetic 'paper' that you can pass through an inkjet printer. So, you could print your own map and tiles.

I don't think I quite get what he is going for.

He is asking for a magnetic map pack of the Kingmaker hex\terrain map.

That's it - thanx for putting it short! ;)

Heck, sheet metal is cheap. A piece that's 1/8" thick and about 4'x4' would likely be about $40 (IIRC; it's been a long time since I've bought the stuff). The only bummer is that it's a pain to work with for DIY types. Most places where you would buy such things are easily capable of cutting it for you (which you really want them to do) and then folding the sides to remove sharp edges. The corners are typically put to a grinder to remove the sharp points...

Another option would be metal-backed whiteboard.

I have used Magnetic printer paper for other projects before. Color is usually not the BEST, but for most gaming purposes easily works fine.

You can print the map on the magnetic paper, then make little icons and cut them out to suit your purposes and they will stick to the map.

great idea, btw!

You can also print on self-adhering labels or contact paper and stick that to sheet magnets. Then just trim the image to size.

Last year at GenCon I picked up a few packs of these plastic film clings representing trees, rocks, pools of water, stairs, and pretty much anything else you'd expect to find on a battlemap. They work perfectly on the glossy surface of Flip Mats. I can't recall the name of the company who made them, but the materials to do something like that yourself couldn't be too much.

Dryder, there's a ton of cool products you could use to adapt your KM map.

I use a large magnetic board for initiative in combat. It rocks!
