Mystaran Immortals

Does anyone have any ideas about domains and favored weapons for the Immortals from Mystara? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The Vaults of Pandius has done a LOT to update Mystara to 3.x

You can find a TON of info there and easily adjust it to Pathfinder.

BTW Mystara is STILL my all time favorite setting... sorry Paizo, but Golarion is a darn close second.

Actually this go me thinking and wondering if anyone has started a Mystara Pathfinder site yet?

Nobody has that Google knows of.

David Fryer asked this question before, and I answered it...

...but then, it was in mid-August, while everyone was downloading the Pathfinder core rulebook PDF, and it was very hard to use paizo.com at that time. I don't know if David Fryer got to see my last reply in that thread.

Like Krome, I pointed to pandius.com. I also pointed to specific pages on that site, like this one, which gives access to many lists, contributed by many people. I mentioned a few lists in particular. And while lists with domains are a dime a dozen, if you want a list with favored weapons as well as Domains, then this one should be particularly helpful.

Actually I have been so busy looking for a job and prepping to go to law school that I had forgotten I had even asked the question before. Thanks for the help.

Primarily I am looking for a substitute for Pharisma. Nyx seems promising, but I'm not quite sure if she is the proper choice.

Well, Pharasma has a portfolio which is most similar to that of Kelemvor in the Forgotten Realms - a judge of the souls. In fact, even if she is a Goddess of Death, she is not Evil, more like a 'force of Nature' (in fact, her Alignment is N).

Nyx (I LOVE HER !!!) was an Immortal who led a mortal life as a human-like creature, before becoming a Vampire and 'living' as an Undead for centuries (and after centuries, embarking in the Path of Entropy for becoming an Immortal). She sees the living as 'children who should one day mature as Undead', and is seen as a 'not particularily evil Immortal' and stated as Neutral despite being a Hierarch of the Sphere of Entropy (Neutral in the D&D rules, where there were only L, N, and C alignment, and there was an overwhelming association of the L alignment as 'Good' and C as 'Evil' - in fact, the exceptions were specifically stated, like for example Djinni, who were stated as 'basically good-hearted, despite their Chaotic alignment'). She is more a goddess of Night, Darkness and Undead - think a loligoth, or Morticia Addams (the art in the book depicts her as a Morticia with slightly asian features, in fact!!!).

(Of course, the rules also say that she has an additional form, that of a wizened old man, in order to have the attenction and respect of older Immortals, but somehow... she never used it in my campaigns !!!)

The only other Immortal whose portfolio could seem similar to Pharasma's was Hel, but she (despite her Neutral alignment) was clearly depicted as an evil goddess, patron of Death and fascinated of the idea of 'capturing the spirits of the dead and reincarnating the especially evil ones' in order to bring suffering and pain.

Basically, Hel was NE with the Death, Evil, and maybe Knowledge and Destruction domains (among others); Nyx was N with the Darkness and Undead domains, maybe the Death domain, and others I cannot currently think of (maybe Charm domain ? She's so cute XD ...). None of them has any pertinence with the Healing domain, or worse yet, the Repose domain.

Sorry I cannot be of more help...

A Few years ago we ran a game in that setting

we didn't convert all the immortals - on the basis that, in addition to the named immortals in the books, there were countless others (can't remember how many, but lots).

we worked on a basis that clerics were just "clerics", and given the huge numbers of immortals, they effectivley just chose two domains that fitted their outlook on life and religion.

this effectivley separated "cleric" from "priest"

Yeah, that would be my approach to playing in Mystara, too.

We always played using Immortals that were ethnically appropriate. For example a Traladaran Priest from Karameikos could choose Halav, Petra or Zirchev. If the PC wanted a different choice they had better come up with a GOOD reason in their background story.

This really helped drive home the different ethnicities. We also emphasized different ways to dress, different favored weapons or combat styles, different ethics and mores. It really felt like a melting pot of game world. There was the Common language of course (Thyatin) but usually spoken with accents that betray origins.

It depends on your region and time frame for MYSTARA.

I'm setting Synn the Night Dragon up for immortality - she just Gutted Glantri, Darokin, Broken Lands, and Alfhiem in AC1020.

I include all my notes on the event and briefings for two adventure paths in the aftermath in THE REASON COMPENDIUM.
