Paladin Bards

Pathfinder Society

Hi there! I've always wanted to run one of these and now I have the chance I would like to know people's opinion on the deity choice for a PFS paladin/bard.

Shelyn is an obvious choice, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a chivalrous and knightly adherent of arts and music, rather than a music boy that likes being good, if that makes sense. My character is taldan, so that also impacts the choice.

Any ideas?

Plus, does a paladin have to name a deity? I thought so, but would like to confirm. Ta!

I think a Paladin/Bard of Iomedae would make perfect sense. Most likely I'd start with Perform Oratory and be a very "militant" character. In fact for flavor I'd probably even add in profession (soldier) and possibly have been a part of the Taldan Phalanx. Hope this helps!

P.S. Shelyn is also a great idea.

I am pretty sure that while following a pantheon or a concept is allowable in general in PRPG core rules, in PFS you do have to select a specific diety as well if you have divinely-powered abilities.

Also, if LG is not really your thing, you could always wait on this character concept until the Advanced Player's Guide comes out this summer and see if the paladin variants supposedly in it will be PFS legal.

I'm a big fan of LG actually, so that isn't the issue. It's more like how can a follower of Shelyn have an outlook that supports smiting and martial prowess.

I'm currently thinking of the 'looking good whilst doing good' theme (outward beauty reflects the beauty of the soul within, or those who take care about others also care about themselves), but it's not yet slotted it all together for me yet.

Are there any canon paladins of Shelyn about? Or did the author of the Shelyn deity section give more detail on the boards?

Also, the Pathfinder Wiki states:

Quote:
She doesn't use her beauty as a weapon (and she punishes that sort of behavior from her followers)

I'm going to assume that this is about manipulating people through lust, rather than a paladin using a CHA based ability to smite someone? Has his been covered before? I'm getting deja vu typing this...

According to Gods and Magic, Shelyn has a small following of paladins, druids, and rangers, although the majority of her followers are clerics and bards. I'd see no problem at all with that type of character, although I'd try not to make have too much of an ego, as that's frowned upon by the church (however, if you wanted that tension there for roleplay, go for it!).

For full details though, I'd check out the book, as it's got some great material.

Thank you! I'll check it out!

I'll see if I can dig up the paper copy for tomorrow night.

I don't recall Shelyn having a problem with smiting those who would harm the innocent, though they may not be as eager to go looking for a fight as, say, the paladins of Iomedae.

FYI: this is who you'll be following...
