Not in and of itself, no. Enchanting armor requires the armor to be masterwork, which reduces the armor check penalty by one. There are also materials and enchantments that can reduce the penalty as well.

Hope this helps.

so other than the initial reduction of 1 to the check penalty from master worked a basic enhancement such as +1 or +2 wont reduce it further.

would master-worked mythral scalmail have a check penalty of 0?

Shadow Lodge

No. Mithral Items are always masterwork, and that is already included in both the benefits and the cost for Mithral.

A Mithral Scalemail would have an Armor Check Penalty of -1.

Are you sure? The price is factored in, I know that, but is the ACP?

edit: I was just reading the pfsrd, so it wasn't clear. The Adamantine entry is a lot more clear on the issue. The mithral entry is vague.

The inclusion of them being automatically masterwork as well is for the purposes of adding magical enhancements. You needn't pay for the additional to "masterwork" a mithril suit to add a +1 to it.

Shadow Lodge

Can't say for 100% sure, but Mithral Full Plate of Speed, (+ 1 Mithral Full Plate that casts Haste 10 Rounds a day), has an Armor Check Penalty of -3, not -2 like it would for "masterwork" Mithral Full Plate.

Same with Elven Chain (which is mithril chainmail), which has a -2 ACP and not -1.

so the best i can hope for is a acp of -1

I'm positive the MW bonus is already included in the mithril adjustments. Mithril chain shirts, however, do weigh a few pounds less than they "should." Just a bit of trivia.

Sovereign Court

YES. Items made of special metals are always masterwork, and the cost of the MW component is always factored into the price.

Pathfinder fighters reduce it more, to a minimum of 0 with any armor.

thanks everyone for all your help, again sorry for sounding like a newb.

Hellknights reduce their fullplate by an extra point as well.

Sovereign Court

Celestial armor for 22K is usually a pretty good choice all things considered.

Also one of the traits reduces ACP by 1

what trait reduces ACP?

i found it its Armor expert

Shadow Lodge

From the free trait guide [COMBAT]

2 Armor Expert: You have worn armor as long as you can remember, either as part of your training to become a knight’s squire or simply because you were seeking to emulate a hero. Your childhood armor wasn’t the real thing as far as protection, but it did encumber you as much as real armor would have, and you’ve grown used tomoving in such suits with relative grace. When you wear armor of any sort, reduce that suit’s armor check penalty by 1, to a minimum check penalty of 0.
