The Juggling Swordsman

Homebrew and House Rules

So just for fun I'm making an epic level Bard NPC that juggles (short) swords. The PC's probably won't fight him (and if they do they'll probably get wiped off the face of the earth within 2 rounds) so originally I was just going to justify it by saying "he can do it" and the PC's will probably only see him attack someone while juggling once or twice.

While thinking of this though I was kind of curious as to how something like this would actually work as a PC if you could get it ok'd. I figured you could make a Sleight of Hand or Perform (juggle) check to juggle the swords and the DC would probably be 15 or 20 for 2 swords and +5 or 10 for each additional sword. Then I started thinking a little more and I figured it would probably take a full-round action or so to draw 5 short swords, with Quick Draw (1 for each iterative attack, 1 for TWF, and 1 for ITWF) and start juggling. Then from there it would probably be a swift or free action to maintain the "performance" and he'd have to full attack to use all 5 swords, each sword only being able to attack once (like above 1 for each iterative attack, 1 for TWF, and 1 for ITWF). He'd also have to make a Sleight of Hand or Perform (juggle) check to maintain juggling during/after his attacks, it'd only be 1 check (and I'm still not sure of the DC) but this would actually penalize him more than a normal Two-Weapon Fighter and he's not getting more attacks or anything.

If you haven't noticed yet I made him take Two-Weapon Fighting and Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, it would technically be multi-weapon fighting but he's still only getting as many attacks as he would get with Two-Weapon Fighting. This is just something I thought of for fun, I've always kind of wanted to run a game and let players do things they wouldn't normally be able to do, like take multi-weapon fighting and use a dagger in their boot and 2 swords or use a large sized great sword without penalties by spending a feat or something like that. Any thoughts on the juggling?

I don't know about the juggling part but he should not take a penalty because I think that technically speaking you can have 5 swords sheathed and do quick draw chese to use any variant of attack with those (as opposed to one attack with each)... unless of course there is some reward.

Well he's taking a -2 on each attack because he'd technically only get 3 attacks if he was using just BAB. He gets 5 because of Two-Weapon Fighting and Improved Two-Weapon Fighting. Actually I think it's the 1st 4 attacks are at a -2 and then the last one is at a -5 but that might be wrong, I haven't played a Two-Weapon Fighter in a while and I haven't played one in Pathfinder yet so I'm not 100% sure if Improved Two-Weapon Fighting works the same or not.

I hope no one in your group thinks to use Gust of Wind to completely disarm him...

Dazzling Display might be a fun feat to give him, too! Someone juggling 5 short swords would be quite a sight to behold.

I don't think the party would try this as they'll probably be fascinated by the fact he's juggling 5 short swords (aka bardic performance), yes technically he's unsheathed weapons but it's also part of the performance. Dazzling Display might be fun, I might have to give him it if he has an open feat.

I suppose if someone did decide to use gust of wind and disarm him he could just kill them by whistling the next round though.

Player: "I'll Gust of Wind! Ha, take that!"
Felgoroth: "I suppose he's all out of options..."
Player: "That's right!"
Felgoroth: "Save or die."
Player: "haha-What!?"
Felgoroth: "You've manage to put him in a foul mood... He was going to entertain you while fighting. Now, he'll have to entertain you to death."

Lol ya that's pretty much the gist of it, he's a friendly NPC so I'm hoping no one will do anything stupid.
