Electrified Roof Good For The Environment? How Does That Work?

Okay, I just heard that in Australia they are using electrified foil insulation that is supposed to be better for the environment than traditional insulation. Could someone explain how this works, I just can't grasp the concept.

Um, I think you're getting a slightly incorrect version of things.

I do believe it's more a standard insulation bat that has foil used as a kind of 'trimming' or 'edge' to it. Something to help keep the bat all in one nice rectangular shape.

The 'electrification' comes from wiring in the roof then meeting the foil and causing all sorts of trouble, including fires that claim buildings as well as possibly a death or two so far.

In all a very sad day for my country and politics, since all this came about when the powers that be tried to rush through a system/policy for quickly 'greening' the place.

Lots of money was thrown at an industry, with out the necessary safety features as in;

1) Having the amount of inspectors needed to ensure quality of work.

2) Allowing uncheck imports to flood into the country to help said now bloated industy meet the sudden government driven demand for cheep insulation.

3) Creating a sudden surge in an industry and hence creating the situation where people with little to no training were put into potentially hazardous situations. We had one or two workers killed simply due to dehydration from working inside a roof cavity in 40+ degree heat (That's like over 100 Fahrenheit for all you old skool types)

Lots of pain and suffering all round.:(

Hope that helps clear up some misconceptions. ^_^

That makes more sense. The guy telling me about it is usually reliable, but everyone screws up sometimes.

No worries, mate. :)
