Ok guys I more or less have talked myself into doing this. Now this will work out or it will die a horrible pbp death, but as to which one who knows. But my curiosity has got the better of me and my will save sucks

Now I have read the world of darkness rule set and loved the system as it seemed to fit, however I have never ran the system, so be aware of this I am in a learning curve a bit so if I make a rules mistake, point it out to me.

A few things here. This thread is not only to discuss the running game but also the set up. I have started tinkering with it a bit but have not for instance nailed down just where the main game will be set or just where it starts. Also there is the issue of getting a group together, In a book ya can work to have em meet and spend months in the book doing that, not so much in a pbp which might be months of real time.

The game will run somewhere in Appalachia, not sure where just yet. I have a vague story line as well as antagonists, groups and friendly folk I can place. I will take input from the players to nail down area and we will work as a group to set he stage.

I plan to run this game as a story, with "chapters" think of it as like parts to an adventurer path. Much like the book there will be spots where the chapter ends and we may skip ahead weeks or months to the new chapter. Allowing down time and time to spend those oh so lovely XP's

As how long a chapter will be or just how much down time, really depends on the story. If yall for example like the bear killers get a group together and march toward some goal, we could skip weeks of traveling only to start the new chapter when ya find a town.

Hope this makes some sence to ya. Just fancy words for "down time"

Ok now for the folks still interested in such a game we have some decisions to make.
1: Just what are you interested in playing?
2: Do we start at the location or travel to it
3: Why are we going to it{ I have some ideals here}
4: How do you meet?
5: Any input ya have or anything ya would like to add would be welcome

Ok I think that is it for now.

1. (Assuming you meant character ideas) I'm planning on going with your standard mental/social focused type. At start, his only real survival skill is probably going to be convincing people not to kill him and whenever his skills happen to come in handy. Yeah, he's probably not going to be that useful most of the time early on, but he's probably going to make up for that once we begin rebuilding society, assuming he lives that long. (Actual character concept and not justification for it: Teaching Assistant at whatever passes for a history department at a nearby college. Hey, someone here has to remember military tactics of 10th century Europe.)

2. I'll defer to the majority on this one.

3. See 2

4. We could always be on the same bus when the apocalypse happens, bonding over our near-death experience and desperate flight from wherever we are.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

History teacher assistant good call. Very useful that will be

Dark Archive

I think that I would like to play European kid, fantasy fan - especially of Song of Ice and Fire and Wheel of Time - who came to the States in order to buy replicas of famous fantasy swords and to get autographs of his favorite authors. This kid would be me, 12 years ago. Now, I'm from Serbia and I am used to things like planting crops, slaughtering animals, all the stuff you do at the village, I did some hunting and fishing, and stuff like that. But I was always a geek (learned to read and write at four, learned English at seven etc.), so my knowledge of world history was pretty extensive even then. So, I thought for my character to be something like real life me.

I'll go with a priest. I'll, if course, give him a history that would be useful this type of world. BTW, I have never read these novels but I am sure I will at some point.

I'll play a survivalist type who is not particularly enamored of how the apocalypse is coming. (No guns, etc.) Someone has to protect all the egg-heads anyway.

I don't have opinions as to the setting at this time.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

I'm thinking American Indian kid, grew up on a reservation, and rebelled at his "Shaman" grandfather trying to teach him "The old ways", so he went to the city, and got involved with the wrong crowd. ended up with a drug/alcohol problem, and actually joined a gang, and sold drugs, and roughed people up. Finally was caught and spent some time in prison. While there he was put on work assignment to a Prison Farm, and found out he had a gift and spiritual connection to animals.

He is now out of prison, and has embraced his spiritual side, and sees himself as a close friend of all animals...Dogs...cats...horses. He is currently on the way to ________________, to serve an apprenticeship with a animal psychic.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok lets see what we have so far

1 Teacher assistant
1 survivalist
1 priest [You talking preacher or catholic priest here? }
1 Shamanistic Indian
1 sword collecting fantasy nut farmer boy

Ok any one apposed to something like greyhound? Ya could be on a bus or the like or just maybe all on the road when it hits, I mean ya would at lest say "Umm what the hell happened?" to the guy 3 cars over

Also guys if ya would shoot me an email at

Spoiler:
Seekerofshadowlight@ gmail.com
We could work on adding things only your pc would know and it'll give ya some stuff to add to the game in place of everyone knowing everything from the get go.

Currently I am thinking ky or west va so far, but we would need a reason for some of ya to be traveling that way. Also something ya can send me a mail about if ya want to keep some things a surprise for the party

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok guys some more info. I have picked the main location.

Jackson kentucky
More info

As you can see there is alot of general detail there, and ya can use that to help ya fill out backgrounds and such. Google maps is also great. The place has 1 small collage and under 3k population so seemed a good fit. At lest for a starting place. or rough starting area anyhow.

I was originally thinking priest, but am leaning towards a Southern Baptist minister who "saw god" as a soldier in Iraq or Somalia. Now, in RL I am completely irreverent and might hold some misconception/prejudice on what a southern baptist minister might think and talk like, but after the (whatever happens to the world) he completely loses his faith.

If anyone will be offend by a yankee's caricaturization of a baptist minister, let me know and I can use another concept. Hell, I can change it to a terrorist who was going to blow up the bus but then the thing happened and he found him needing to rely on the people he was bred to hate, since he was distracted from his mission. BTW, he still carries his bomb. Actually, that sounds more fun. I will think on it.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok guys now that I have picked the starting point lets get to the fun stuff shall we

Character creation:
Standard mortals from the world of darkness core book. You may also use merits and skills from the armory and armory reloaded books as I also own them, just be sure to point out they come from that source

And to help both me and you here are some questions for your character. you can email em to me or place em in a spoiler

Do you have family?
If so where are they?
Are you dateing?
Do you have a hobby?
Where did you grow up?
Where are you living?
Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's?

If ya think of anything else just email me or spoiler it. I am sure I will think of a bit more

Ok, I just realized that firearms & technology don't work in this universe, so taking points if firearms, computers, drive, etc is pointless, correct?

Technically firearms applies to bows and crossbows as well as traditional firearms, so that might be useful, depending on your character's background. But I don't see computers really getting a lot of action. Of course, I haven't read the books, so I don't know to what extent the technological damage goes. (fries everything vs. possible to workaround)

ED: I looked it up and it turns out that only crossbows use firearms. Regular bows and thrown weapons use athletics.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

More or less yes, however if ya choose to do so{ like a firearm nut or programmer or the like} I will be giving such folks a bit extra role playing ep to overcome the issue.

It is up to you how you choose to build such pc's as I know folks now who do not know how to drive or use a pc, much less 12 years back

A not guns count toward bows and such oddly enough, modern ones anyhow

Okay, good. Both my concepts involve some heavy training in firearms. One being an American soldier, well, Marine since I was one and can't conceive roleplaying anything else, and the other a soldier as well, but of a different focus and trained in explosives (both electronic and chemical).

OK, since no one objected, I'll use the Catholic Priest. Something about a priest in uniform kicking butt sounds fun to me.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Something else ya guys who live in citys should know, around here there is no such thing as mass transit. Evey one drives, no one really rides bikes, it's cars or trucks for 90% of all people the few who ride motorcycles only do so in the summer. Once ya leave outside the main town sidewalks are non exsistant as are streetlights save by houses

Just letting yall know.

Stats are done. I know Occult probably isn't going to be that useful, but the first time I played the character he was basically a Call of Cthulu character. Anyway, questions:

Spoiler:
Do you have family?
-Yes, both parents and a sister.
If so where are they?
-All of them still live in Massachusetts.
Are you dating?
Do you have a hobby?
-When he died, Adam's uncle left him three things: His lucky pocket watch, a love of history, and books on the occult. A lot of books on the occult. Yeah, he's done other things, but he'd rather curl up with a book than go out on the town any night.
Where did you grow up?
-Dartmouth, Mass.
Where are you living?
-Currently, in an apartment near the Hazard Community College.
Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's?
-Professor Williamsson, who he spends most of his time working under. He's a good teacher, but he is a bit odd. They say he used to work at a more famous university(no one really says for certain), but he just started ranting to his class about the upcoming apocalypse one day and got fired.

Of course, all of that's liable to change.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Do you have family?
-Not sure anymore. Father died while young, Mother was a druggie / prostitute. Had a little sister who lived with an Aunt in Montana, Last he knew his grandfather was still alive. (May have any number of 1/2 siblings)

-Are you dating?
Nope fresh start out of the pokey

Do you have a hobby?
-Battered old Guitar, with a fascination for West Coast Surf music. He was also the resident prison Tattoo artist.

Where did you grow up?
-Mud Butte, SD

Where are you living?
-Homeless right now. Heading to KY with $1,200 in pocket, to get a new start. Has a line on a rental trailer in a small trailer park in destination, and a possible job Mucking stables at a Horse ranch in area.

Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's?
-Cole Anticoa / Prison cell mate. Gigantic Nordic guy that took character under his wing, and kept him from being taken advantage of in prison. Great story teller, and very religious.

Mack "Two Feathers" McKenzie - Maternal Grandfather, and Shaman. Not sure of status.

Glenda Parsons - Beautiful girl he would sometimes see, when helping deliver horses to Auction, while working on Prison Farm.

Father Wallace Salvatori reporting as order, Sir!

Name: Bryan Woods
Occupation: Claims Investigator, Fire/Flood/Other Natural Disaster
Sgt. US Army [ret.]

Spoiler:

Do you have family?
His parents are dead and he has fallen out of touch with his only sister. He has an ex-wife and daughter he only visits a few days a year.
If so where are they?
Last he heard his sister was still living in their hometown, she married her high school sweetheart and settled down. This ex-wife and daughter live in Philadelphia.
Are you dating?[i]
No, he was divorced about 3 years ago and never really got around to dating again.
[i]Do you have a hobby?

His primary hobby being a woodsman and survivalist. He hunts extensively and goes camping or backpacking most weekends. He does not buy into a lot of the hardcore survivalist rhetoric, but has amassed supplies and a modest gun collection for the possible apocalypse. He has also converted the basement of his home into a makeshift bomb shelter, where he stores his guns and supplies under lock and key.
Where did you grow up?
He grew up in Ashland, a small coal mining town in central Pennsylvania. He left after joining the army and hasn't been back since.
Where are you living?
He technically lives in Trenton, but spends much of his time traveling for business and is rarely at home.
Do you have friends that might make interesting NPC's?
-Ben Lepac: Not exactly friends, this bear of a man runs guns and meth throughout the Appalachians, has a more "aggressive" attitude toward survivalism. Not a nice guy, but a good source of less than legal survival gear.
Harold Westmore: Park ranger he has got to know from his frequent trips into the woods. Though he looks like a bespectacled grandpa, there is no better tracker and wilderness guide.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Profile to follow

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Nice to see ideals coming together here, I got a few of my own I'll post when I get em sorted out a bit

Looks like we have
Tommy butcher:Animal trainer/vet/healer type?,ex-con
Bryan woods: Claims investigator, Survivalist, ex army
Father Wallace Salvatori: catholic priest, ex- marine
Adam Fletcher: Teacher, likes history and the occult

Do I have the gist of em?

How do you want to handle resources? Since most of our characters are going to have our resources disappear as soon as the cataclysm occurs, so should we spend points as if we had zero dots in resources?

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Heeeeeeeeeerrrrrrs Tommy!

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

resources are like normal, ya can list things ya might think is useful, like land, cattle, weapons or he like as resources are many things, also keep in mind cash is very useful the first few days or weeks..till folks fig out it is totally useless anyhow.

seekerofshadowlight wrote:

Pretty much. Wallace starts out with his faith in his god intact but shaky. He has lost a little because of that other priest, but still is strong enough. It will be after a few months when it gets shaky, then blam...360 on his catholic beliefs.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

OK guys I have started getting things ready, I'll mail ya or post up a few things for the ones I have not given a bit of feed back to next

I would like to be ready to start end of next week or the like. I just need to get some character info and do more stuff on my end before we start

Dark Archive

Seeker, count me out. I'm very sorry, but I can't be sure if I'll be able to create my character by then, and I don't want to keep the rest of you guys from the game. I should have more time during April, so I could perhaps create my character and introduce it at some point during the game. If not, it's okay. Sorry once again.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Man if your interested in playing and we start before you are ready{if we are able to start by then anyhow} I would be more then happy to write you in. PBP do not move fast as is and as a GM I tend to always keep ways to add in new players. So If ya want to play I'll get ya in.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok guys I am still a working but here is a base starter map that might be helpful

Map

It as of now has four locations. The wakeland farm{Place tommy lives} The wakeland animal clinic {Place tommy works}, Holy cross catholic church{The good fathers destination } And Hazard community collage{Lee county branch}

I will be adding more things of coarse If anyone has soemthing they would like added but I have over looked or not yet though of let me know. I'll also get around to checking the character and expanding NPC's in the next day or so.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Wow! looks cool. I'm really looking forward to this one.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok guys this is just checking to see if yall are still here. This has taken me longer to start then I would have liked but I needed to get some stuff down and all before we started. I'll get some emails out and check pc's in the next 2 days or so. I am hoping to get rolling by weeks end if everyone is ready.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Still here. I bet if you refreshed the original recruitment post you'll get more players if anyone drops out now that the holidays are over.

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

If I stuck around with the Eberron game, I can stick around with this one.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

ok heh we still have 2 players....yeah davi I am really hoping this game does not get the odd unlife the other did.

I'll look over pc's tonight and get the tread up tommow or Thursday, maybe a bit later if they other 2 do not check in if ya want me to try and find a few more players.

I'm still here as well. I am ready to start whenever.

Me too. I haven't gotten around to writing a history and never learned how a character gets equipment, however.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Cool glad to see we have not lost anyone. As for the good farther's gear, unless ya guys plan to own homes or have alot of stuff I would not worry about it to much. The priest for instance, just have in his case what ya think a traveling priest might have.

Some of the other guys however are settled and might own things like bows, or land or the like. It's up to yall but ya do not have to detail it all to much cash will very soon become useless anyhow

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

ok a few things that need adressed

Father Wallace Salvatori

Spoiler:

Init: should be 5
Health: should be 5+3 not 6
will power: should be 5
size: should be 5

Not sure what armor 1 bashing is

Tommy Butcher

Spoiler:

Fine as is. Thought ya might feel left out :)

Bryan Woods

Spoiler:

Init: should be 5

Adam Fletcher

Spoiler:

8 points spent on mental skills not 7

If I have something wrong let me know

Male Humanoid Lurker 1/ Nerd 1

I think you meant 8 points spent on social skills instead of 7, but it's been fixed.

Oops, I meant to take a dot from presence and put it into composure. The values should be correct now.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Taking me a bit longer as RL stuff came up. Main thread should be up Monday however.

Male Human (Half Blood American Indian)

Tommy's ready for the big flash when you are...

Father Salvatori has the Iron Skin merit from having two **, which gives him an armor trait of 1 against bashing attacks.

Other changes are made. Thanks.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

And we are Active as of now

Hey it's still Monday for 28 more minutes my time..so there :)

Seeker:
I just updated Bryan's profile with his skill specializations. I forgot about it and just noticed.

male Human 8th level seeker/6th level gamer /4th level bad speller

Ok guys you can roll your dice here really as it shows your rolls

Str+Stam 5d10 ⇒ (2, 1, 9, 8, 3) = 23

You can see above I got 2 successes. But if ya want to keep using IC that is fine as well. I just thought I would give you the option.

I prefer keeping the roles in the game thread, just to keep it all together.
