Ghost Rider Archetype Mount.

Can the Ghost Rider Cavalier Archetype take the Monstrous Mount feat and if so, does this change his phantom mount to a new type of creature?

Anyone?

Since there is no text to support that the mount can do so, the answer is no.

Even more specifically, you do not have the "Mount" class feature and so you cannot take the feat.

Tanks a bunch.

Curious.

If it doesn't count as a Mount, what does it count as?

The ghost mount is basically like the spiritualist phantom, but in animal form.

It would be really nice if there was a specific feat to allow the phantom mount to be the phantom of a specific riding mount.

BBT,

The Ghost Rider archetype replaces the class feature Mount with the class feature Ghost Mount and thus you cannot take the feat Monstrous Mount because Monstrous Mount requires Mount.

This is the same as any other class feature that operates similarly but still replaces the name. Example: The Archer archetype replaces Weapon Training with Expert Archer and even though they work basically the same you still cannot apply Gloves of Dueling bonuses to Expert Archer.

Hmm.

So, Eye for Talent, or certain Favored Class bonuses wouldn't apply then?

Depends on how they are worded but in this case the Ghost Mount is based on the Spiritualist Phantom class ability rather than the Cavalier's Mount ability so they would have to be able to apply to Phantoms.

Edit:
Having checked Eye for Talent it does not apply to Phantoms so it does not apply to Ghost Mount.

Humans have great intuition for hidden potential. They gain a +2 racial bonus on Sense Motive checks. In addition, when they acquire an animal companion, bonded mount, cohort, or familiar, that creature gains a +2 bonus to one ability score of the character's choice. This racial trait replaces the bonus feat trait.

Yep. RAW, Eye for Talent doesn't apply to phantoms or eidolons. Summoners, Spiritualists, and Ghost Riders are not able to benefit.
