The Nature of Magic

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Dark Archive

Hey folks,

I can't remember if I'd seen it before, and maybe overlooked or forgot about it ... but has the Nature/Origin of Magic in Golarion been explored yet?

The Forgotten Realms have the Weave, Warhammer Fantasy Old World has the Winds of Magic/Warp Rift, etc.

Has any of the chronicles products delved into the nature of the metaphysical yet? I can't remember.

Not in the Campaign Setting that I've noticed.

I've flagged this thread for wrong forum, as I think you might get better responses up on one of the Pathfinder general forums rather than down here in Chronicles.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure.

(Thanks for the re-direct flag, for some reason my brain just didn't register the existence of the general forum)

Magic is just magic.

No Mana, no Weave, no Crystals, no Calling of Spirits, no Defiling/Preserving, no being forced to turn L'Cie to do magic, no being born with some Magic Gene.

Or maybe yes.

The advantage of a free and indistinct source of magic means you can put your own ideas in.

Though Abraxas is said to know the Final Incantation, a spell that will make magic go away forever....

Start preparing for the end of times, everyone... I agree with KaeYoss.

There's something inherintly disturbing about agreeing with someone with such a Chaotic avatar name.

I'm gonna have to say my Hail Lawfuls 50 times tonight to purge myself.

It's always good to have a sound drive train and motor from the start. Then you can drop a kublewagen, Volkswagon or even a Porshe body on. The leaving this open for writer, Game Master, etc. development is one of the nicer things about 3.Pf.

I would really like to know.

I'm pretty sure it's not midichlorians.

There is, however, still a pretty good chance that it's the power of cheese.

And I'm saying them along with you to really mess up your value system!

The Forgotten Realms have the Weave.

HAD the weave. Magic is now unbound and arises now from a variety of power sources no longer just one. That's the justification for the way magic works in 4th edition.

Ahh yes ... You are correct. My brain just seems to unconciously block out all aspects of the world changes wrought over 3E FR.

I'm sure the place is coming into its own now, but I haven't been back for a visit in a while.

That new stuff doesn't count.
