A List of "Most Compatible" Content

Homebrew and House Rules

I was wondering if it wouldn't be very difficult for Paizo to help out us DMs who are more story-oriented and not quite so savvy with the whole balance thing. I want to request maybe a list of Core Classes, Prestige Classes, and maybe Feats and Spells which have been published which are most compatible and balanced with the Pathfinder rules. I don't think it would be a copyright violation to just do a list of names, would it?

I think Feats would be a bit time-consuming and Spells certainly would be, but a list of Classes and Prestige Classes, I think wouldn't be too hard to do. I'm not asking for an explanation why one class is chosen and not another (although SOME on these boards might, I really don't care about them).

What does everyone else think?

Loopy,

I love anything from the arcana evolved SRD....

They've said in the past in response to this type of request that they cannot legally offer this type of list.

As for "compatible and balanced" ... pretty much everything is compatible, and balance is way too much in the eye of the beholder for Paizo to be able to issue a definitive statement. For example, I consider the Tome of Battle and the orb spells perfectly balanced (outside a couple maneuvers and orb of force), while many other people consider them the worst example of munchkinism since Oz.

Well, sure, but I am actually interested in the beholder that is the Paizo design team. There are a lot of beholders out there, but the vast majority do not have my respect or trust as the Paizo staff does.

If you guys have an internal list that you have amongst yourselves, you have my email.

Thanks

We respectfully request that you refrain from using the word "Beholder". Like the classes you are requesting which cannot be listed by the Paizo staff, they too are copyrighted.

Sincerely,
The Lawyers.

A good number of these "broken" things were made by professional designers, just sayin'. ;)

Oh yes, and some were made by the very same people I'm lauding in this thread. Having said that, not everybody is perfect, but I personally do feel, and of course it is my opinion, that the Pathfinder rules set has been as close to perfect as 3.X can get and certainly is the closest it's been so far. Perfection, of course, while a reasonable goal, is virtually impossible to achieve, it remains a fact that I've had to come up with houserules and argue with players very very little in comparison to previous editions.

I know there are some vague passages here and there in the Core Rulebook, but I've been able to make very reasonable judgement calls on these, most of them ruled in exactly the way I called them, proving that although they're vague mechanically, the spirit of them is clear enough for reasonable people who don't get bent out of shape about stuff like this to surmise their intent and make a fair judgment call.

The Paizo staff has earned my complete trust and that's why I asked them for this list. If it's not possible, then that's cool. I understand. It's just disappointing.

Actually not all the classes "names" are copyrighted, something like Samurai, Ninja, etc, can't be copyrighted, Duskblade or Purple Knight yeah, those are.

Which is why WotC (especially after being bought by Hasbro) has continued to steer farther and farther from historical names, and more into original fantastical names...it's much easier to claim IP that way...heh.
