Possible to add items to pending order?

I placed order #1387134 today. It is, quite naturally, still pending. I would like to add an item to this order, so as to prevent doubling the shipping cost. Is it possible to do so, and what is the course of action to take?

You can do that. Add an item to your shopping cart and proceed to checkout. On the checkout page, under the Shipping Method menu, you will see a "Combine with an existing pending order." option.
