Sorry but I think there is a typo there...you mean to say March 8th, not 15th, right?

I can't wait a week!

Looks interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

You know, I think I gave the 3.5 Draconimicon a 5 . . . but I'm not sure I would have done that now . . . ;)

I will post a review of it up on paizo tomorrow when it goes up.

Steve, I just grabbed a copy of it and just wanted to say you did a bang up job on this one. I haven't finished reading through it yet, but I'm liking it a lot.

@ Dark Mistress

Thanks again for all the reviews. I am glad we could surprise her.

I have just uploaded a printer friendly versions at both rpgnow/drivethru and Paizo, thanks so much I live for actionable feedback!

I am curious as to how you determined the price point was too high? I based the price point on my own Feats 101 ($4.99), Ronin Arts 101 series ($4.99), and Super Genius Games Loot for Less series (30 items for $1.99, which would make it $6.69 for 101 items) How would you have calculated the price point? Did you have a suggested price point?

@Hunter1828

Thanks Robert, I spent alot of time combing through my Homebrew and OGC sources to find magical weapon properties that did not suck, and alot of the credit for balance goes to the playtest group and my best friend Doug Hughes.

Oh also at the very last minute Dennis "Ogre" Baker point out a fix we needed for my personal favorite special quality Disorienting as I really think that one could be turned into a condition.

I just replied to your post over at Enworld. But I will repeat the gist of it here for others to see. For the print friendly version I would also remove the border if you could as well.

As for the price, it is more of a gut reaction, of price to page count, to a first time buyer of your company. Honestly with your production values it is worth the price though, it is a very pretty book. I don't really have set idea's of how much stuff should cost. I think it really comes down to content, page count and price for most people. I mean I listed the giants one which is 25 cents less a good buy. *shrug* I can just be crazy at times. But I think most will value something like magic weapon enhancements lower than they will being able to play giants for example but the giant one is cheaper. But thats just my opinion. :) I think my 4 star and good opinion in the review will off set my pricey comment, least I hope.

Yep the printer friendly version is without borders.

Thanks for all the wonderful feedback.

I think Lilith should give you cookies!

I will post my review up here for it in a bit. I need to go copy it from ENworld and then paste it.

Please mention that the file has been updated and includes a printer friendly version now based on your original review. ;)

still reading through this, but I noticed that in the Spellbane quality, "property" is spelled "proper".

I made a note that it has been added on ENWorld and here at Paizo. I couldn't find a way to edit or add a comment to my review on RPGNow.

@Dithering Fool: Thanks I will add that to our list of errata when we update the PDF! (that may be a bit I have a mountain of projects to clean off my plate)

oh and I blame Dave Paul :)

@Dark Mistress: Thanks! I look forward to your next review

More errata: What classes can cast Teleport Attack? I presume it's just on the Sorcerer/Wizard list but would like confirmation.

@Paul, that is correct. It is Sorcerer/Wizard

Just curious, have you thought about doing. Well I call them legacy magic items but i doubt that is the right term. But basically magic items that get more powerful as you level. I mean one thing that has always bugged me and many of the people I play with is this.

you go in some old ruins find a magic sword (etc) it is the first such item you have found. But often it is just a +1 weapon and you discard it in a couple of levels. It would be nice to have more magic items that you find at low levels and keep. I mean Conan found his sword and if memory serves(been a long time since I read the books) he used it his whole career. Yeah ok i know it wasn't magical but you get what I mean.

There has been a couple of books with magic items like that, was just wondering if this is something you have considered doing.

Not that it's particularily important, but is there a table for generating weapons randomly in this book?

yes the table has listing for rolls for minor, medium and major i think. i know it has 3 percentage rolls for the properties.

@Ganryu

Heheh, its right there linked in the very first post :)

@Dark Mistress
I have thought about Legacy Items and have even done the relics such as those in the Rite Review.

I have seen them called Legacy items, Epics, Relics, or Covenant Items.

My thoughts are that it could be done using the Rules As Written with a format based on when a character would normally have the wealth to purchase such an item and at what level an ability is appropriate.

You can put limits on these ability by putting prerequisites on these items similar to prestige classes.

It something I would love to do for Questhaven but right now the water is right at my head with work on The Book of Monster Templates.

Once Kaidan is ported over to Rite Publishing, I have my own ideas for Legacy items specific to Kaidan: a Japanese Ghost Story setting, that could be extrapolated to standard Pathfinder settings.

Kaidan will feature Ancestral Weapons and Items. In previous iterations of Oriental settings, Ancestral Weapon was a class feature of the Samurai, rather than a feat, however its my belief that Ancestral Weapons should be available to anyone, thus I made it a feat. I see a Ninja chain-claw weapon should be available as an Ancestral Weapon or a farmers staff, just as easily as a Samurai's katana. For the samurai Ancestral Weapon are bonus feats.

The Ancestral Weapon feat is intended to be stacked, in choosing it multiple times for a specific weapon. To give Samurai an edge with the Ancestral Weapon Feat, as they should have one, I give a faster progression to access the feat, as built into the Samurai class itself, as on its own the Ancestral Weapon Feat can only be taken once every four levels (Samurai accesses it once every three levels.)

Regarding Ancestral Items, extrapolating on the above ideas, I conceive the idea that items used and passed down through generations within the same family can have a progression of powers accessed with multiple, stacking choosings of the Ancestral Item feat (note this can only apply to a single item, per selection of the feat.)

The only negative thought, is that this can get expensive, feat wise, since you only get your normal progression of feats acquired, dedicating more than one to a single feat prevents access to other desired feats, so this idea may need further development.

As it works thus far, Ancestral Weapon feat grants a +1 spiritual bonus to attack and damage rolls up to +5, then starts granting special weapon abilities, like keen, brilliance, etc. up to vorpal (though now I have a 101 other weapon qualities that can be applied!) Another thought is to couple a feat or weapon quality along with the progressive +1 of attack rolls with each feat stacked selection.

Anyone using a weapon or item throughout their career project their spirits into the items, that subsequent generations can access by taking the feat. That's basically how the Ancestral quality works.

I think something along this idea could expand outside Kaidan and be used in a traditional Pathfinder game.

Sorry, for the threadjack, Steve...

GP

PS: to make this less a threadjack, I just purchased 101 Magical Weapon Properties last night to use in tonights game - I was so satisfied with 101 Feats product, that I knew this one would be just as good. Great product, Steve!

Yeah I was just thinking of something fairly simple. Like at 1-5th level it is a +1 sword and can burst into flame on command. Then at 6-10th level it can shoot burning hands x number of times a day etc.

Just magic items that get more powerful as they level. I think it would need to be tied to the character level of the user to keep it balanced.

Not that I'd remove the Ancestral Weapon/Item feat from Kaidan, since Feat Expense can get high dedicating 2 or more feat selections on one feat, it might be better to tie the Ancestral quality directly into the weapon/item itself rather than to a feat. Its worth more thinking.

You could make it a regular legacy weapon like i am talking about that only works for the samurai. As long as the cost is listed each time it changes powers it would be easy to still balance with how much total the PC should have in magic. You could then base some powers of using said weapon from class abilities or class abilities that just enhance the weapons normal powers or something.

I keep coming back o this, and I think a good design for Legacy Items would be a few examples one for say each character class, in a standard format. And then a look behind the legacy a plug and play format that allows GMs to quickly provide introduce a legacy item customized for a player character.

Actually as I think about this more the idea of actually making the items based of existing story tropes is very appealing now if only I had the time.

Steve Russell.
