Module Suggestions for First-time GM

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I'm thinking it's time to try things out from the other side of the screen and I'm looking for suggestions of modules (3.5 or Pathfinder) that would be a good place to start.

I'm not looking to run an entire AP, just a short-term (maybe 3 or 4 sessions) try to get my feet wet.

Go!

I'm a firm believer of start at the beggining. Crown of the Kobld King is a good "starter" Module. Or just pick up the first part of the Rise of the Runelords adventure for some good ole goblin bashing with a couple of tweaks.

Start with low level (1 - 3) since there's not many complicating factors from things like spells and abiliteis for you to worry about.

My advice is try Hollows last hope? I think that's the free one available at the downloads section. It's low level, was written as a kind of introduction to golariion and has a few follow up modules you can buy afterwords if you and your group want ot play the same characters in a similar area. It's written for 3.5 though.

Alternatively grab the one that Jason Buhlman wrote for the release of Pathfinder last year. It's a first level adventure written specificaly for the pathfinder ruleset. Can't remember the name but will check and edit for you later.

Cheers

Edit - Crypt of the Everflame is the pathfinder one i mentioned above.

Also, Hollows last hope is teh introductory free module I mentioned earlier. It's followed up by crown of the kobold king and revenge of teh kobold king. Hope those help.

+1 all these are good starts

Get your hands on a module that you went through as a player and then look behind the screen and you will get a whole new take on that particular adventure....

It is fun to revisit a madule from player to DM.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Unfortunately my group has already played through Hollow's Last Hope, Crown of the Kobold King and Crypt of the Everflame.(We love Paizo and do a lot of short term stuff over the summer)

I like the look of Flight of the Red Raven, any thoughts? I know it's a bit higher level, but the style really appeals to me.

It sounds like Pathfinder Society scenarios are your friend. Take a look at stuff that's either just been released or is about to be, and claim dibs with your friends. You might even be able to play one at a local game day and then run it.

Get a copy of Into the Haunted Woods (good combat, wilderness, and mystery adventure mix.)

Or even better, get a copy of the Gamemastery Treasure Chest. It has ITHW, the Critical Hit Cards, the Tavern Map Cards (which are used for 2 of the encounters), the Forest Flip Map (the various parts of which are used for 5 of the encounters), and a gamemastery Treasure Card deck with ALL of the magic items included in the adventure.

Its a fun, short module with fun encounters and with the boxed set you get lots of fun props.

I used it as a demo to teach people Pathfinder and 4 of the players went on to become my ROTR player group.

(OK, I'm a prop whore so I'm a little biased. And the cool minor magic items at the end are lots of fun too...)

My first Pathfinder RPG group is having a blast going through "The Sunless Citadel" being a 3.0 module means that it takes a bit more to convert to PF (although not really all that much more work then a 3.5 module), and the adventure is actually pretty cool.
