So, how are home made monsters viewed in submissions? Is this something that's usually frowned on, or is it generally assumed that if they're crafted well it's fair game?
This isn't for something really outrageous either, I just wanted to include a new elemental, like the ones mentioned in the Campaign Setting (sand elementals, for example).
Avoid new monsters in your submissions. Pathfinder Society scenarios aren't really the place for new monsters.

What about variant monsters? Many have already been added to the pfsrd.
Please only use monsters found in the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary for now.
I assume that adding simple templates (from the bestiary) to existing monsters is fair game though, right?
It's in the Bestiary, so yes. :-)
