Diablo 3: Any Suggestions for Running PFRPG in Sanctuary?

Hi everyone,

So I've been eagerly awaiting the release of Diablo 3 and, unbeknownst to me, a bunch of the other guys in my gaming group are as well. I've been wanting to run a game (or convince one of my buds to do it) in the world of Sanctuary for some time now, but I'm not sure how to go about it. We're all PFRPG people in our group now, so there's the use of the new rules system to take into consideration and I cetainly don't want to really bad Diablo II tabletop products that have been released in the past (ugh). What classes would make good substitutes for options in previous games and the upcoming release? Where can I find codified information on Sanctuary, and what stories can I tell without repeating what's already been done? There's much to think on.

Running games in established non-tabletop worlds isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if there are Diablo enthusiasts out there who have ideas on the matter or who have considered doing this themselves, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!

For fluff I think they made a 3e DnD book for diablo but I really know nothing about it. i like the video games, but beyond what I know from playing them I have no clue where to learn more info.

Have you checked the blizzard web page? They should have some lore and stuff up about the games.

Are you aware of this and this?

Ah yes, I have the Diablerie (hence my mention of not wanting to use past products), and from what I know of To Hell and Back, it's supposed to be gawd-awful. Truth be told, from a design perspective, I'm tremendously underwhelmed by the former and, yeah, the stat blocks for the monsters are passable, but they're far more trouble using than they're worth in the end.

In short, I'm much more interested in the ideas of those who are really familiar with the Diablo universe and what they might consider doing were they to undertake a PFRPG translation of the world of Sanctuary and what sorts of adventures they might set their players on . . . !

I'm not sure you can use current PFRPG classes to cover the Diablo ones. A summoning necro can't be done... nor a summoning druid. Maybe a bone necro with just changing the special effects of some spells. Then you come across the spells running out on you for all of the spell casting classes. (I seem to recall a few Diablo threads on teh WotC baords back in the day...)

Playing in the world I think would be pretty easy to do. Think about the Quests in the game and use those as a basis of your adventures. There's also the thought of playing a party through a massive battle helping out the NPC army as it fights off the ghouls, skeletons, or shamen. A bunch of mini-fights taking place inside a massive battle. The dungeon crawls would be more ideal for a party adventure.

I would write up the classes for the players to use, using the Tome of Battle classes as a basis for them or at least using the mechanics from Tome of Battle. It would be a lot of work but I bet it would be hella fun. :)
