so much I don't care how he spells his name.
I just read the issues of Teen Titans he drew. Emphasis in 'read' as the art was just, ugh. I showed the first panel of Robin to my roommate, and she agreed, it should have read 'Holy Codpiece, Batman!'
That and apparently he missed the 'ans' in the title 'Teen Titans' based on the amount of chest the teenagers suddenly developed. Especially Cassie and Raven. Oh, and the suddenly huge belt pouches on Victor and Tim...
Also for someone who pitched a fit about Shatterstar playing both sides of the table, he certainly doesn't mind drawing woman in 'more than friends' type poses. I didn't check for feet though.
Gah, mental bleach please.

Consider it mental prepairation for the "rush to the finish" of RPG Superstar.

It's taken you this long to hate him?
I've been blessed to avoid his (t)artwork since the beginning of X-force. (You know, his 'New Mutants meet Highlander') So to come back, what, 20 years later almost and see he's not learned a Damn thing...
Heck I've learned enough in a year to go from top 32 to top 8 ;-)

I love the gratuitous cheesecake, but I never thought him some kind of stellar artist...just a guy drawin' boobs. I never understood why he polarizes communities so, although I do give him props for going his own way and starting his own(or working with others to start) a rival comic book company at a time when that would have been considered insane.

Which issues did he draw? I need to know so I know what to avoid.
I'll look when I get home, they're on the html comicbook archive. I'm slowly getting caught up.
DM Freehold, my issue is that they're teenagers Cassie's a sophmore I think, as is Raven. They shouldn't go from looking like 'normal' teenage girls to Seoni-like proportions. especially Raven. I could understand an artist feeling like he needs to add a little bit to 'show they're female' (which would show limitations of the artist, but anyway) When they go huge, it's annoying. When they all have the same huge chested bodytype, it's a lack of versitility. It looked excellent on Starfire (who has been called 'bubble bod' by her teammates) on young teens, not so much.
(aside, that's one pet peeve I had with the artwork in X-men/Utopia, Apparently Dani's gifts from Hela included a boob job, and how can Psylocke ninja with those things? I mean even Jim Lee drew Psylocke with a big chest with breasts on top, like you'd see in someone who has a lot of body strength and tone. There's a great scene in the Claremont/Lee run where Jubilee looks at Psylocke's chest, then at Jessica Drew's, then pulls her own shirt out, looks down, and fumes. It was funny and oh so true at the same time)

What's funny is the second panel is from that Titan's comic.

Shadowborn |

Hmm...I remember way back when he started doing the New Mutants. Suddenly all these teenage mutants hit mutant puberty and apparently became fitness fanatics. Then formerly lithe and slender figures like Karma and Wolfsbane blossomed into DD-sporting supermodels that could only walk on their tiptoes.

Shadowborn |

I think one of my favorite Liefeldisms is the guns. One panel Cable could be carrying a shotgun type weapon into combat. Two panels later, he has two pistols blazing and then a totally new and different type of rifle/shotgun a few panels after that.
Yeah, and half of them are double-barreled, even the ones that shoot lasers.

I just want to know what kind of dirt he has on editors that he still gets work
Does he still get a lot of work? I know he'll do one-shots or guest art which are probably the result of calling in favors from old friends in the industry but has he dedicated himself to a long run on any series besides his own Image Comics stuff?
I also think he gets an occasional bit of work for the same reason people watch stuff like Jersey Shore. Trainwrecks=ratings (or in this case, sales).

I'm not a fan of Liefeld, and although I personally
think his artwork is really really lacking/bad, he
does seem to have his moments, and over the years he
has improved on his work...but to me it's still not saying
a lot. He seems to be more of a one trick pony in regards
to what he draws.
two tricks,
left and right :P
Might help if he actually saw a real human being naked. (but not a guy, becasue he'd freak, ask Shatterstar)

lol I don't know Matt...you may be giving him too much credit...
Yea anatomy lessons or even using live models for reference iswhat he should do.

Here's what I don't understand. Someone must like his work, right? I mean, the guy keeps getting hired to do this for a living even though he objectively sucks ass. But, I've never encountered anyone who would admit to liking him. Do these people exist?
That's funny, I don't recall him selling his soul to us for success. Must have been someone else.

Funny moment tonight. Stopped at a comic shop to get caught up on Teen Titans. Saw a poster by Liefield for 'lady deathpool' I went "Look honey, he -can- draw feet." Without even looking around to see which poster I was looking at the owner said "Well, kind of. 20 years and he still draws the same way."

I am decidedly NOT a fan of his. However, I will give him credit for sticking in there, and in the past few years, actually improving at his craft.
Also, here's a little article explaining what's with (or without) all the pouches.

And then there's this thread from StarDestroyer.net...
And finally, the infamous Naked Captain America gag.

Psylocke and Black Widow, actually, but yeah, hilarious. That whole segment with Captain American flashbacks, etc. was great.
My favorite Liefield boner was his introduction of a character named Battleaxe, some hot chick with a battleaxe and an eyepatch. She appears in five different pictures, and her eyepatch swaps from side to side, sometimes even on the same page!

Hey, it worked for Final Fantasy VIII!
The biggest problem with Liefeld is only that he managed to get famous without actually learning how to draw right, and that his style defined a decade's worth of comics. If he was just another bad comic artist, most of us probably wouldn't care.

Sort of like Teal'c's forehead symbol on the first season of Stargate SG-1, or Boba Fett's antenna in Star Wars.

I didn't really see him as defining anything, so much as riffing off of styles that Arthur Adams and Todd McFarlane were experimenting with.

... Which would have been okay if he had a shread of artistic talent to begin with.

After reading through the first 13 issues of X-Men Forever, I am beginning to feel the same way about Chris Claremont. I like the guys stories, but he never says in one word what could be made more confusing in five and what is it with him and little kids in bondage? I loved Illyana's new look though.

I do too, I just don't like 'evil Illyana' I prefer 'trying not to be evil, and sometimes fail miserably' Illyana. Edit: Plus swords are cooler than spears.
(Aside, I just read Nation X #3, the Illyana/Anole story was funny. "Alright, I learned my lesson." "Lesson? I just couldn't stand you anymore.")

You know what amuses me most? I mean I get using stuff for reference but a direct translation of other peoples work? Especially how his cap and wolverine's were just rehashed other peoples cap and wolverines.... Man I loathe him...

Im one of thouse people who like Liefeld. Im sorry but when I was a kid and started looking at the NewMutants X Force and Youngbloods Comics I really didnt see all the flaws
Now that im older I still like his art and his take but I do see all the flaws with his art
New Mutants and X-Force were my favorites when I was 12, I didn't notice the flaws, Now I do, I have spent years trying to think I was good enough to get published, then I look at Liefeld's stuff and think, yeah, if he can, so can I.

those rip-offs of the flying ships would have gotten him sued if they hadn't been for the same company. I swear it looks like he actually scanned them into photoshop and re-skinned them...what a hack! I have gone from dislike to disdain...

Well it fits his writing. Note the New Mutants/Highlander crossover.

Since we are talking about the Teen Titans and ripping things off, who decided that it would b a good idea to give Slade Wilson a brother named Wade?
Umm, to poke fun back at Deadpool fans?
