Olympic Closing Ceremonies-Thoughts?

I have heard that a lot of people were isapointed wth the way NBC handled the Olympic Closing Ceremonies. Not having watched them myself I wonder what people think about howthey were handled and what NBC should have done differently.

Not really sure about NBC's converage, but all in all I think it was a bit too much of a music concert. It was nice to see some of our local talent, for sure, but the end of it was basically just music act followed by music act.

I would have liked to have seen more highlights from the big events, maybe more activities with athletes themselves, etc.

Oh, and Catherine O'Hara really made for a bad comedic impression of us - her jokes were supposed to come across as insulting in jest - they came out as just insulting.

With all the Hoser homages in the Official Clothing lines and whatnot, I was also surprised that they didn't honor Bob and Doug Mckenzie by having them show up live.

"Disapointment" was not the word I would have used ... may be "Outraged" or "Disgusted" would fit better.

Rarely has a business organization aggressively seized a chance to alienate both existing and potential customers.

How so?

Chopping short coverage of the Ceremony to air a Reality Show?

Dark Archive

Yeah, that is bad.

...but ... but ... it had Alec Baldwin ... and Jerry Seinfeld ... and Kelly Ripa ... but ... but ...

Dark Archive

Even more reasons to be upset, who would put Alec Baldwin and Kelly Ripa on the same stage as Jerry Seinfeld? Kelly Ripa doesn't even belong on the same stage as Regis.

Dark Archive

Damn ... well now I see what you meant about NBC...

We locals got to rely on full live coverage of the event via CTV.

Although I certainly would have liked to see some things change; not showing it at all is a poor move.

That's just right up there with Fox cancelling Firefly ... (and about a dozen other good shows...)

I was never really into Seinfeld. Alec Baldwin, on the other hand, is the man.

Dark Archive

Sure, I like Alec Baldwin. His work on 30 Rock is genius. However he and Jerry Seinfeld have completely different styles and I doubt they mix very well. I'm going to give Marriage Ref a try on Thursday, so I guess I'll know more then.

My favorites for Alec has always been Malice and Glengary Glen Ross where both films have some of his best dialogues ever in his acting career.

I admit I haven't seen too much of Alec Baldwin's work. But what I have seen is great because he has a real gift for making the seemingly ordinary into hilarious all while acting completely clueless to why he is so funny.

I think it impresive that Canada, despite an inability to get it up at the Opening Ceremony got it up at the Closing Ceremony....:)

On a more somber note a final goodbye to an Olympian's inspiration
